Cornell College invites applications for a full-time registrar. The registrar provides leadership for and coordinates all registrar office activity, including student registration, implementation of academic regulations, maintenance of academic records, production of course schedules and publications, and conveyance of appropriate academic information to faculty, students, and the campus community. The registrar also participates in team efforts to promote student success and retention, and to evaluate and enhance the academic program.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • In consultation with the Office of Academic Affairs, organize, coordinate, and announce the schedule of courses. Work with the departments to achieve a balance of courses across terms.
  • Coordinate student registration in collaboration with Assistant Registrars.
  • Evaluate transfer credits, determining advanced credit for new matriculants and transfer students. Collaborate with the Director of Admissions operations to provide degree audits for prospective transfer students.
  • Coordinate and oversee Cornell's consortium partnerships for course sharing and transfer credits.
  • Review Bachelor of Special Studies and Individualized Major Proposals and independent study and internship study and internship petitions for conformity with academic regulations.
  • Conduct degree audits, certifying the status of graduates for commencement.
  • Counsel and advise students regarding academic policies and regulations and exceptions that might be considered.
  • Cooperate with Student Life regarding students who are struggling academically and to support the needs of students with documented disabilities. Serve on appropriate retention-related committees.
  • Serve as co-chair of the Academic Regulations and Review committee; serve as an ex officio member of the Academic Programs Committee, and a consultant to the Faculty Council and the Accreditation committee and its Curriculum Oversight sub-Committee.
  • Inform students, parents, and advisors of academic warning, probation, and suspension and counsel and advise students regarding avenues of appeal.
  • Work with Information Technology staff and others across campus to improve access to college data through the Power Campus system.
  • Oversee production and revision of the Catalogue .
  • Collaborate with the office of Institutional Effectiveness to prepare and submit reports as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring the college is complying with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act in the areas of student records and grades.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Advanced degree (or commensurate combination of work and experience in higher education) and three years of experience in higher education required.

Preferred Skills

Ability to communicate effectively and interact professionally in a variety of situations in person, on the telephone, and in writing. Organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills. Knowledge of or interest in acquiring expertise in federal regulations relating to the Americans with Disabilities Act, Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and Title IV financial aid. Knowledge of Student Information Systems, degree management platforms, and related technologies relevant to higher education.

Work is performed primarily while seated in an office environment. The hiring pay range for this position is $65,000 - $72,000. Cornell College offers a fantastic benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, HSA & FSA accounts, a TIAA 403(b) retirement account, and tuition remission and exchange for employees and dependents. We also offer life insurance, disability insurance, travel insurance, and accident insurance. And, all full-time staff begin with a 4-week vacation accrual along with 14.5 paid holidays per year. This position works on campus with the possibility of some regular remote work.
