Production Operator

Job Description Major Responsibilities: Set up, run and adjust manufacturing equipment to produce quality plastic film and bag products in a safe work environment. Follow and support all Company safety, GMP and ISO policies. Maintain a safe work environment by following safety policies and conducting daily section inspections. Ensure all safety checks are made before putting equipment in line. Maintain quality standards according to specifications and tolerances. Check and record quality data per work instructions. Report weight variances and bad quality product to the Section Lead. Maintain good housekeeping to 6‑S standards. Read “Traveler” – Bill of Materials (BOM) and special instructions. Know when changeovers are required and what supplies are needed. Start machines up, shut them down, and make changeovers following procedures. Set gussets, thread equipment, and make changes to downstream equipment. Set heat profiles for different resin blends and adjust equipment to maintain yields, maximize production and reduce scrap. Change and clean screens, adjust bag length, width, weight, separator, input speed, and alignment. Return materials to proper locations after changeovers. Monitor resins, blend hoppers, and pumping system to keep resin flowing. Additional Responsibilities: Assist in running multiple lines while ensuring high quality output. Move packaging materials to lines as needed. Stage boxed resins, fillers, or concentrates at lines. Return unused materials. Set up and rebuild printers, set tapers, and change tape rolls. Make minor equipment repairs and aid in troubleshooting with maintenance technicians. Perform routine PMs and write maintenance work requests for repairs beyond training. Pass electric pallet jack and forklift certifications. Weigh scrap boxes at shift end, record net pounds, and inspect pallets for weight accuracy and stacking configuration. Check fork truck fuel level before shift end. Work on all lines and areas of Low Density, High Density, Pack Area, and Agricultural Departments. Pack on all lines and in the Pack Room. Label, stencil, assemble boxes, and manage breaks. Inspect trash containers for recyclables before dumping. Train employees in job duties from current to entry level positions. Qualifications High School diploma or GED (preferred). 3 to 6 months experience as a Packer 2 and/or 3 to 6 months experience in manufacturing in a related field. Experience in a team‑work oriented environment (plus). Ability to use hand tools for mechanical repairs. Ability to use measuring instruments properly. Ability to read and understand a traveler. Ability to document quality and weight on bag check sheets. Ability to thread up a line. Language skills: read and comprehend simple instructions, checklists, correspondence, and memos; effectively communicate and present information one‑on‑one and in small groups. Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure; compute rates and percentages using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Reasoning skills: solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in loosely standardized situations; interpret written, oral, diagram or schedule instructions. Knowledge of navigating different computer programs. Ability to train new employees. Ability to communicate with employees who may not speak English. Physical Demands Work around moving machinery or electricity requiring high safety awareness. Work around forklifts and wear appropriate PPE. Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted; push or pull up to 100 pounds. Reach, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, bend or twist up to 66% of shift. Work Environment Subject to changing priorities, time pressures, and constraints. Work environment is loud with manufacturing operations.
