Certified Medical AssistantThe Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting in providing clinical care to select patients under the supervision of a professional nurse or licensed medical practitioner. The role also includes providing clerical office assistance.ResponsibilitiesPrepare exam room, treatment room, supplies, and instruments.Prepare patients for physician visits and examinations, assisting as directed.Take patients vital signs and record them in the medical chart.Understand the proper function and care of special equipment.Perform EKG, PFT, Titmus Test, UDS, BAT, Phlebotomy, and other lab testing as indicated after completing a performance evaluation checklist.Maintain records by completing patient records as directed, and file records and reports.Assist with collections and billing procedures as needed.Use computer software to maintain office systems.Identify and respond to issues of confidentiality.Lift a minimum of 5 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 10 lbs., and stand a minimum of 6 hours a day.Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care specific to those needs, including age, culture, and language considerations.Adhere to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.Perform telephone and in-person screening.Obtain and record patient history.Prepare patients for and assist with procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries.Apply pharmacology principles to prepare and administer oral and parenteral medications (excluding medications).Perform medication reconciliation.Screen and follow-up on test results.Perform inventory of supplies and equipment.Perform routine maintenance of administrative and clinical equipment.Provide instruction for health maintenance and disease prevention.Schedule appointments and obtain patient demographic and financial information, entering information into electronic practice management tools.Communicate with licensed medical practitioners and deliver information to patients as directed.Schedule inpatient and outpatient admissions and procedures.Organize and file medical records.Essential SkillsSterile processing technician expertise.Knowledge of sterilization, decontamination, trays, assembly, and case carts.CRCST and CBSPD certifications.2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant.Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent such as a GED.Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.Required Certifications & Licensure: AHA BLS.One of the following certifications: CMA-NHA, CMA-NCCT, CMA-AAMA, RMA-AMT, RMA-NAHP, AMCA, NCMA.Work EnvironmentPart of Cardia Medical Associates in Hasbrouck Heights. The position offers no weekends, no holidays, no on-call, and no float requirements.
