The Town of Halifax is seeking qualified candidates for the part-time position of Van Driver for the Council on Aging. This position is responsible for transporting Halifax senior citizens and handicapped residents to and from local area destinations. The Van Driver will be expected to perform a variety of functions including, but not limited to, operating a multi-passenger transportation van with a chair lift; transporting passengers to and from medical appointments, stores/supermarkets, Town/COA programs and events; attend staff meetings and required certification/license trainings; and assist the Transportation Coordinator with reporting and documenting vehicle maintenance issues and service. The successful candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent or an apprentice level of trade knowledge; up to one (1) year related work experience preferably with the elderly population; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must be CORI certified (background check), hold a valid Massachusetts Class D driver’s license, and hold a valid MArtap (Massachusetts Rural Transit Assistance Program) certification or commit to completing the following trainings: disability awareness, accessible lift use & passenger securement, drug & alcohol awareness for safety sensitive employees, defensive driving, bodily fluid spill procedures, CPR, and basic emergency first aid. Pay range: $20.23 per hour to $27.30 per hour (Grade 2). This is a part-time (5 to 19 hours per week) non-union position and is not eligible for benefits.
