Basic Responsibilities Equipment Operation: Safely set up and operate manual machine tools, including manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and surface grinders. Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, technical schematics, and blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and sequence of operations. Precision Machining: Select cutting tools and precisely calculate/adjust feeds, speeds, and depths of cut to shape raw materials into finished specialty steel components. Quality Assurance: Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators) to ensure strict adherence to exact quality specifications. Routine Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance on manual machinery, including cleaning, lubricating, and making minor mechanical repairs or adjustments. Safety & Workplace Standards: Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area following all company and industrial safety guidelines. Supervision: Works independently with minimal supervision; reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor . Work Environment: Industrial manufacturing facility. Candidates must be comfortable working in environments that require appropriate PPE. Qualifications & Requirements Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Vocational/technical school training or a completed industry apprenticeship preferred. 2 to 5+ years of hands-on manual machining experience in a machine shop or heavy industrial manufacturing environment. Key Technical Skills & Capabilities: Manual Lathe Proficiency: Proven proficiency and hands-on experience operating a manual lathe. Machining Expertise: Extensive knowledge of machining techniques including turning, boring, threading, and facing. Technical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, spatial awareness, and proficiency in shop mathematics and geometry.
