The Role The Senior Manager, Data Engineering & Business Intelligence is a hybrid player‑coach role that turns new ideas in data and AI into positive business outcomes. The role shapes processes, blends high‑level project discovery with hands‑on technical execution, and applies strong business knowledge in a retail environment across multiple business models. Responsibilities Write, review, and optimize production‑grade code (PySpark, SQL) for scalable data pipelines and data architectures. Architect and manage ELT/ETL processes in Azure Data Factory and refine cloud data structures in Azure Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog). Develop and govern semantic data models, advanced DAX queries, and enterprise‑grade Power BI dashboards for business units. Supervise and contribute to AI/ML model development, data pipelines, and scalable architectures in collaboration with data scientists and engineers. Guide SMEs and stakeholders to identify business needs, develop problem statements, and define metrics for strategic Data & AI initiatives. Manage a high‑performing team of data engineers and analysts, balancing resource allocation, mentoring technical growth, and overseeing Agile delivery. Define scope, estimate timelines and costs, and secure stakeholder sign‑off while coordinating with IT and vendor partners. Assist leadership with building business cases, tracking budgets, and supporting funding approvals and stage‑gating processes. Maintain partnerships with key leaders (Digital, Solutions Delivery, Finance, Infrastructure & Ops) to align technical output with retail business goals. Drive adoption of modern data‑warehouse concepts and ensure alignment between technical solutions and retail objectives. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data reporting, advanced analytics, and project management; 3+ years of direct people management. Advanced, hands‑on experience with Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake), Power BI, and Azure Data Factory. Demonstrated knowledge of applying data engineering and AI within a retail environment (e‑commerce, supply chain, store operations, or B2B/B2C). Proven track record of managing and code‑contributing to complex data and AI programs across business units. Strong executive‑level presentation skills and ability to communicate complex data insights. Experience with data project life‑cycle processes, use‑case execution, and business benefit capture. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Hybrid role; required to be onsite at the corporate office on specified days. Work space includes office rooms, meeting rooms, retail stores, and corporate campus. Work is sedentary; occasional walking, standing, and light lifting may occur. No special physical demands beyond normal office duties.
