Job Description

The Material Handler supports production by safely moving raw materials, components, scrap, and finished goods throughout the facility. This role focuses on accurate picking, stocking, and replenishment of materials, while following established safety practices and company procedures in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Use manual pallet jacks to load and unload raw materials, scrap, and finished goods within the facility.

• Identify, pick, and transport the correct raw materials and parts to their designated locations on the production floor.

• Replenish workstations with required materials to ensure continuous production flow.

• Pick orders accurately using paper pick tickets and RF scanners, and verify quantities and item numbers.

• Manage paper pick tickets, ensuring all orders are documented, completed, and returned or filed as required.

• Perform stocking and inventory count activities, including placing materials in proper storage locations and maintaining organized stock areas.

• Operate material handling equipment, including pallet jacks and, where applicable, forklifts, in a safe and efficient manner.

• Follow all company safety policies and procedures while operating equipment and performing daily tasks.

• Demonstrate proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including safety glasses, eyewear, and cut-resistant gloves.

• Support general labor and production tasks such as packing, packaging, loading, and handling sheet metal and other materials as needed.

• Use basic hand tools as required to support material handling and production activities.

• Collaborate with production and inventory teams to maintain accurate material flow and minimize downtime.

• Assist with general housekeeping in work areas to maintain a clean and safe production environment.

Essential Skills

• High School Diploma or GED.

• 1–2 years of manufacturing or production material handling experience.

• Proficiency in material handling and inventory management in a production environment.

• Experience with picking and order picking processes.

• Ability to use RF scanners for picking and inventory tasks.

• Ability to safely operate manual pallet jacks for loading, unloading, and moving materials.

• Knowledge of stocking procedures and conducting inventory counts.

• Ability to read and understand Bills of Material (BOMs).

• Ability to use basic hand tools safely and effectively.

• Experience with general labor tasks such as packing, loading, and production support.

• Ability to work safely while consistently using required PPE.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience operating forklifts in a production or warehouse environment.

• Experience in sheet metal or similar production environments.

• Experience with packaging and material preparation for shipment.

• Familiarity with replenishment processes and maintaining workstation supplies.

• Comfort working in a loud, fast-paced, and physically demanding production setting.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production environment that can be loud and dirty, typical of a sheet metal and general manufacturing setting. The position operates on a first shift schedule as a sheet metal general laborer and material handler. Employees work around production equipment, materials, and hand tools, and must consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, eyewear, and cut-resistant gloves. The work involves physical activity such as standing, walking, lifting, and maneuvering materials with pallet jacks and other material handling equipment throughout the shift.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bethlehem, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
