Family Caregiver / Parent Personal Support Staff (PSS)

Georgia Pediatric Program (GAPP)

Position Overview

The Family Caregiver / Parent Personal Support Staff (PSS) provides non-medical support services to their child enrolled in the Georgia Pediatric Program (GAPP) . This role allows eligible parents or legal guardians to be compensated for providing approved daily care and support that assists the child with activities of daily living while promoting safety, stability, and well-being in the home.

This position is based on Medicaid approval and is reviewed and renewed every six (6) months , contingent upon continued eligibility, compliance, and authorization under the child’s GAPP plan of care.

Key Responsibilities

Family Caregivers may provide assistance with the following as authorized in the child’s plan of care :

• Assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), including:

  • Bathing, grooming, and personal hygiene

  • Dressing and toileting

• Supporting mobility and transfers (as appropriate)

• Meal preparation and feeding assistance

• Monitoring the child’s safety and well-being in the home

• Providing supervision consistent with the child’s needs

• Following established routines outlined in the care plan

• Accurately completing required timesheets and documentation

• Communicating regularly with the agency and clinical supervisor

• Participating in required trainings, supervisory visits, and compliance reviews

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must:

• Be the parent or legal guardian of a child approved for GAPP services

• Be at least 18 years of age

• Be authorized to work in the United States

• Successfully complete:

  • Criminal background check

  • TB screening

  • Required GAPP and agency trainings

• Be able to follow written care plans and agency policies

• Demonstrate reliability, consistency, and professionalism

Important Notes

• This position is not skilled nursing care

• Services must be provided only during approved hours

• Payment is based on approved Medicaid service hours , not 24-hour care

• Continued employment is contingent upon:

  • Ongoing Medicaid eligibility

  • Six-month renewal approval

  • Compliance with documentation and program requirements

Schedule & Compensation

• Schedule varies based on approved hours in the child’s care plan

• Compensation is Medicaid-funded and paid weekly

• Hours are determined by GAPP authorization
