These are permanent Maintenance Worker positions intended to perform a variety of intermediate construction, rehabilitation and maintenance work at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service facilities for which the applicant is selected.

For Basking Ridge, New Jersey the Salary Range is: $31.91 per hour (Step 1) to $37.24 (Step 5) per hour.* Relocation expenses for this location will NOT be reimbursed.

For Funk, Nebraska the Salary Range is: $24.86 per hour (Step 1) to $29.03 (Step 5) per hour.*

For Stafford, Kansas the Salary Range is: $30.01 per hour (Step 1) to $35.05 (Step 5) per hour.*

For Zimmerman, Minnesota the Salary Range is: $31.54 per hour (Step 1) to $36.78 (Step 5) per hour.*

*First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

The Major Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

• Performing routine preventive maintenance for buildings and facilities including heating systems, refrigeration and air-conditioning units.
• Replacing parts and performing tune-up on vehicles, and periodic maintenance including changing oil and greasing points, tightening connections, replacing hoses or belts, and changing and rotating tires.
• Operating heavy equipment such as front-end loader, grader, or bulldozer to move materials such as sand, gravel, earth, or refuse.
• Maintaining and repairing electrical systems such as lighting and power fixtures, wiring, fire or water alarm systems, and emergency power systems.
• Performing welding and sheet metal construction.
• Using and maintaining tools and equipment, recording inventory and maintenance, and reporting or documenting equipment damage or loss.
• Following safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations, and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
• (Funk, NE only) Routine maintenance of diesel power generators and operation and maintenance of diesel and electric wells.

• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment.
• Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 6 months of entry on duty.
• Pre-employment and random drug testing are required. You will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.
• You may be required to wear a uniform and comply with the uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider:

• You must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles.
• You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. (Basking Ridge, NJ you may be expected to travel up to 10 nights per month.)

The duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.

Physical Demands: The employee uses considerable physical effort is required in the operation and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and attachments. The employee frequently is required to perform heavy lifting and exerts considerable physical effort while using hand and power tools. Work requires extensive leg, arm, and hand movement, standing, stooping, walking, bending, climbing, and kneeling, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, and over 50 pounds with assistance. The employee uses jacks, pulleys, dollies, or other lifting and carrying devices. Work may be from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, or high places, and in hard-to-reach places. Frequent arm and leg movements are required to operate controls, make repairs, and build items.

Working Conditions: Work is accomplished both in an office setting (5%) and outdoors (95%). Works outside in all kinds of weather and frequently exposed to running water, fumes, dust, grease, dirt, and moving parts of equipment and machinery. Work performed outside is in a variety of settings where steep terrain, extremely uneven, rocky and slippery footing is normal. Temperature extremes are common.
