Associate Principal of Early College High School

Assist the school principal in overall administration of the Early College High School program of choice, including the instructional program and campus-level operations. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in educational administration or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
• Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
• Certified T-TESS Appraiser
• Certified Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) or Instructional Leadership Development(ILD)

• Thorough understanding of Early College High School operations
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to coordinate campus support operations
• Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
• Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
• Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Instructional Management
• Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs.
• Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
• Promote the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
• Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective action.
• School/Organization Climate
• Promote a positive, caring, climate for learning.
• Foster collegiality, collaboration and team building among staff members.
• Encourage their active involvement in decision-making process.
• Assist in promoting research-driven classroom management practices in the classroom.
• Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Support Small Learning Community Coordinator(s) in all job-related endeavors.
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and other school-related stakeholders.
• Provide opportunities for teachers to discuss and share ideas and strategies to teach the curriculum standards and objectives.
• School Improvement
• Participate in development of the ECHS campus plans with staff, parents, and community members.
• Develop, maintain, and use information systems and records necessary to track progress on campus performance objectives addressing Academic Excellence indicators.
• Identify, analyze, and apply research findings (e.g., effective school correlates) to promote school improvement.
• Personnel Management
• Assist principal with the evaluation of faculty and staff as assigned.
• Assist principal with interviewing, selecting and orienting new staff.
• Manages personnel effectively through activities such as delegating appropriately, recognizing exemplary performance of teachers and staff, encouraging personal and professional growth and leadership among the staff, complying with applicable personnel policies and rules, and securing the necessary personnel resources to meet objectives.
• Student Management
• Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
• Implement a student management system that results in positive student behavior.
• Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
• Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
• Promotes positive student conduct through activities such as helping students develop a sense of self-worth.
• Developing and communicating guidelines for student conduct.
• Updating the Student/Parent Handbook.
• Supporting collaboration by working with faculty and staff.
• Encouraging student and parent participation.
• Communicating high expectations for student achievement, attendance, and behavior.
• Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
• Supervise operations in the ECHS.
• Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
• Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with attendance clerk on follow-up investigations.
• Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
• Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
• Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
• Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services with the ECHS.
• Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
• Professional Growth and Development
• Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
• Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
• Serve as a role model for all campus staff.
• School/Community Relations
• Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
• Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
• Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
• Other duties as assigned.
