Technician I Mortar, Concrete Laboratory

Position Summary The Technician I – Mortar Laboratory supports the testing and evaluation of mortar and related cementitious materials. This entry-level position involves sample preparation, performing standardized lab tests, recording data, and maintaining a clean, organized lab environment in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO standards. Key Responsibilities Prepare and test mortar samples in accordance with ASTM standards (e.g., ASTM C109, C305, etc.). Perform physical and mechanical tests such as compressive strength, flow, consistency, and setting time. Follow proper mixing, molding, and curing procedures for mortar cubes and other test specimens. Accurately record test results and maintain detailed lab documentation. Clean and maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and workspaces. Calibrate and verify equipment as required. Assist with receiving and logging materials for testing. Comply with safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Support senior technicians and laboratory staff as needed. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; technical coursework in construction materials or engineering is a plus. 0–2 years of experience in a construction materials testing lab or related field. Ability to follow technical procedures and standard test methods. Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Willingness to work in a dusty and sometimes physically demanding lab environment. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word) preferred. Preferred Certifications (not Required) ACI Level I – Concrete Field Testing Technician (may be required after hire) OSHA 10‑Hour Construction Safety (or willingness to obtain) Work Environment Indoor laboratory setting with occasional exposure to outdoor materials storage. Physical activity required including standing, lifting, and bending.
