About This Role

Part-time mornings (9:00–1:00) or full-time opportunities may be available for the right candidate! MVPC Preschool is seeking a warm, nurturing, and dependable Assistant Teacher to join our joyful, play-based preschool community.

Position Details:

• Part-time hours: 9:00 AM–1:00 PM, following the FCPS calendar
• Opportunities to extend your day until 4:00 PM
• Hourly rate: $17–$20 , depending on experience and qualifications

As an Assistant Teacher, you will work alongside lead teachers to create a safe, engaging, and joyful classroom environment where children feel loved, curious, and confident. Our program emphasizes hands-on, play-based learning, social-emotional development, and plenty of time outdoors.

At MVPC Preschool, we are committed to supporting our teachers' professional growth. We offer guidance in identifying professional development opportunities and can assist with finding scholarships for early childhood education coursework.

• Support the lead teacher in daily classroom activities and routines
• Help create a positive, caring, and well-managed classroom environment
• Engage with children through play, conversation, and guided activities
• Assist with transitions, snack/lunch, and outdoor time
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom
• Communicate warmly and professionally with staff and families

• A genuine love for working with young children
• Reliability and a strong sense of teamwork
• Warmth, patience and a positive attitude
• Patience and empathy in working with young children
• Creativity and the ability to engage children in learning activities
• Previous experience in preschool, child care, or early childhood setting, preferred but not required.

• Coursework or degree in Early Childhood Education
• Experience as a child care worker, preschool aide or assistant teacher
• First Aid / CPR training
