Coordinator of Family Life and Sexuality Education

Position Summary The Coordinator of Family Life and Sexuality Education (FLSE) is responsible for teaching age and stage appropriate FLSE classes to Middle School Students in Community Schools, weekly, throughout the school year in accordance with the DOE academic calendar, and during the summer. Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of FLSE, the Coordinator will ensure that FLSE programs prioritize a safe, respectful and engaging learning environment where students feel confident, included and represented in classroom activities and discussions. The coordinator will assist the Director of FLSE in providing support to agency programs and divisions in need of training, outcome data, or information to fulfill the needs and interests of Children's Aid staff, families, partners. The incumbent will understand and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with the functions of the position. $70,000 - $80,000 / year Children's Aid Mission To help children in poverty to succeed and thrive. We do this by providing comprehensive support to children and their families in targeted high-needs New York City neighborhoods. Children's Aid annually serves children and their families at over 40 sites in New York, as well as through three national program models. Children's Aid is concentrating its efforts on creating cradle-through-college pathways in high-need neighborhoods, with a focus on children's health, family stability, education, and social and emotional development. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead the collaboration with the Office of Data Management to analyze and develop FLSE assessment reports to enrich and support agency goals and objectives. Support the development of systems to track program progress and evaluate the effectiveness of activities, services and support at all community schools and community centers implementing FLSE and PFLSE programs. Ensure that FLSE direct services at all sites maintain compliance with school and Children's Aid agency policies as expressed at each Children's Aid site. Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to develop materials for sharing information and data regarding outcomes from the FLSE programs. Ensuring the timely collection of FLSE Health Assessment Data at all schools and centers. Develop lesson planning materials to be used in FLSE classrooms. Regularly deepen all Above the Waist curriculum themes to reflect clinical advances and new content material integration for our middle school programs. Establish collaborative relationships with Children's Aid leadership staff at schools and centers to develop and implement engagement strategies and interventions for adolescents. Ensure safe and productive program spaces to engage diverse learners for creative, accurate and productive FLSE lessons. Ensure materials that are distributed to parents and principals remain up to date with the most current information regarding FLSE programming. Join in collaboration with the Director and PFLSE staff in continuing to develop, plan and implement contemporary sexual health lessons for use in the PFLSE program. Establish a consistent presence at sites as an educational resource beyond classroom instruction, being available to student questions during lunch and other free periods. Refer students to appropriate Children's Aid resources, when necessary, such as counseling, clinical care, or other agency services. Continue to prioritize partnerships within existing community schools including Children's Aid College Prep Charter School, Paul L. Dunbar M.S. 301, Central Park East II, and P.S. 72 Lexington Academy, as well as the Salome Urena City College of New York Network Middle School. Regularly confer with PFLSE teachers and share updates on lesson plans, curricula and researched materials. Support the Director of FLSE in partnerships with community center leadership in the development of FLSE and PFLSE programs. Support the Director of FLSE in partnerships with community center and community school leadership to encourage enrollment in the annual PFLSE program. Support the Director of FLSE in strengthening collaboration with the National Center for Community Schools. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent required; master’s degree in health education or equivalent strongly preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with youth. Minimum of two (2) years of classroom teaching experience with middle or high school students. Key Competencies Work well in teams and in collaboration with other organizations and entities. Strong communication skills and well organized. Experience working with middle school-age youth in an afterschool, camp, or school-based programs. Coursework or field of study in Education, Social Work, or a related field preferred. Experience in tutoring, teaching, or afterschool programming.
