Production Manager
Gilded Painting
Job Description
PRODUCTION MANAGER — HOME SERVICES
\nGilded Painting | Hagerstown, MD
\nWe’re Looking for a Builder, Not a Babysitter.
\nGilded Painting is growing, and we’re looking for an exceptional Production Manager to take ownership of everything that happens after the sale.
\nOur sales team sells the work. Your job is to build and lead the machine that gets it produced on time, profitably, and with an exceptional customer experience.
\nThis is not a glorified scheduling position.
\nWe are looking for a true manager and operator who knows how to build systems, lead people, manage numbers, solve problems, and hold a team accountable to results.
\nIf you're the type of person who walks into a growing operation, sees inefficiencies, and immediately starts thinking about how to make it run better — we want to talk to you.
\nWhat You'll Own
\nYou will take ownership of our production department, including our Project Managers, painters/subcontractors, scheduling, job flow, profitability, production capacity, and customer experience.
\nYour responsibility is simple:
\nTurn sold work into happy customers, completed revenue, and healthy profit.
\nThat means you will:
\n- \n
- Build, document, implement, and continuously improve production systems. \n
- Manage the handoff from Sales to Production and ensure jobs don't fall through the cracks. \n
- Drive jobs from sold → scheduled → started → completed → collected. \n
- Lead and develop our Project Managers. \n
- Recruit, maintain, and develop strong relationships with quality painting crews. \n
- Create accountability around KPIs, scorecards, expectations, and deadlines. \n
- Manage production capacity and make sure we can efficiently produce what our sales team sells. \n
- Protect and improve gross profit on every project. \n
- Identify jobs that are falling behind financially or operationally and intervene quickly. \n
- Reduce callbacks, warranty issues, delays, and unnecessary costs. \n
- Ensure customers receive proactive communication and a premium experience. \n
- Solve problems without needing the owner to constantly step in. \n
- Create a culture where people know their numbers and are expected to perform. \n
You Need to Know the Numbers
\nWe're not looking for someone who thinks production management is just keeping customers happy and crews busy.
\nYou are responsible for business results.
\nYou should be comfortable managing and being held accountable for numbers such as:
\nRevenue produced. Gross profit. Labor and material costs. Production cycle time. Capacity. Customer satisfaction. Collections. Callbacks. Warranty work. Project Manager performance. Crew performance.
\nYou should know what is happening in your department before someone has to ask you.
\nAnd when a number isn't where it needs to be, your instinct should be:
\nWhy is this happening, and what system, process, or person needs to change to fix it?
\nWho We're Looking For
\nOur ideal candidate has meaningful management experience in the home-service industry.
\nPainting experience is valuable, but we're more interested in finding an exceptional operator than simply finding someone who knows paint.
\nYou may have come from painting, roofing, HVAC, remodeling, landscaping, flooring, windows, restoration, or another high-volume residential home-service company.
\nMore importantly, you've successfully managed people, projects, customers, revenue, and profitability.
\nYou're probably a great fit if:
\n- \n
- You're extremely organized but can still move quickly. \n
- You naturally create systems and processes. \n
- You're comfortable holding people accountable. \n
- You can have difficult conversations without avoiding them. \n
- You understand a P&L and how operational decisions affect profitability. \n
- You're excellent with customers — especially when something goes wrong. \n
- Tradespeople respect you because you're fair, direct, organized, and do what you say. \n
- Strong employees want to work for you. \n
- Underperformers know exactly where they stand. \n
- You don't accept "that's just how we've always done it." \n
- You solve problems instead of simply reporting them. \n
- You can operate independently and take genuine ownership of a department. \n
- You're competitive and take pride in hitting a number. \n
What Winning Looks Like
\nWe don't want someone who simply keeps production running.
\nWe want someone who makes production better.
\nSix to twelve months into this role, we should be able to look back and see:
\nMore revenue produced. Better gross margins. Better systems. Better Project Managers. Better crews. Faster production. Fewer fires. Happier customers. More accountability.
\nAnd a production department capable of supporting the next stage of Gilded Painting's growth.
\nCompensation
\nWe are willing to pay extremely well for the right person.
\nThis role will include a strong base compensation package with the opportunity to earn performance-based bonuses tied to company and production performance.
\nIf you can build a high-performing production department that produces revenue, protects profitability, develops people, and creates happy customers, we want you financially rewarded for the value you create.
\nWe're not looking for the cheapest person.
\nWe're looking for the right person.
\nAbout Gilded Painting
\nGilded Painting is a growing, family-owned painting company serving our local market with a focus on premium workmanship and a staggeringly great customer experience.
\nWe've built a strong reputation with 350+ five-star reviews, and we're building a company capable of becoming one of the premier home-service organizations in our market.
\nWe're serious about growth.
\nWe're serious about our customers.
\nAnd we're serious about building a team of high performers who want to win together.
\nThink You Can Run It?
\nIf you're looking for a comfortable job where you maintain someone else's systems and avoid difficult conversations, this probably isn't the position for you.
\nBut if you're a proven home-service leader who loves building systems, developing people, solving problems, driving numbers, and winning, we'd like to meet you.
\nApply with your resume and tell us about the largest home-service operation or production team you've managed, the revenue you were responsible for, and one measurable improvement you personally drove.
\nBenefits:
\n- \n
- Health insurance \n
- Professional development assistance \n
- Work Location: In person \n
