Registered Nurse - Operating Room

Job Title

The role of the Implant Coordinator involves managing the procurement, storage, and distribution of surgical implants.

The RN will pick up and deliver implants (biological and non biological) for operation room, cardiac cath lab, interventional radiology, Endoscopy, Podiatry, and Dental Clinic - Collaborates with SPS, Logistics, Prosthetics, Vendors, and staff - Inventory of implants for all areas at CDD and LD - Checks in implants to Trackcore (Joint Commission requirement), monitor for expiration dates, rotate stock, and turn-ins - Debriefing in OR and SPD for upcoming cases weekly - Consult management of all implant cases at CDD and LD - Vendor Meetings - Provides direction/guidance to vendors, obtains delivery slips, receives requests, liaison between vendor and providers - Works closely with Prosthetics Purchasing Agent to reconcile the ordering, receipt of acquisition, and record implant information - Administrator of Reptrax - Administrator of TrackCore . Detailed knowledge of information processing functions of Surgery Service to provide data from various data bases for reporting purposes, reviews, and training. Ability to communicate in a professional manner and possess appropriate interpersonal skills to effectively deal with individuals from various backgrounds, knowledge levels and cooperativeness levels. oral and writing communication skills for speaking in front of individuals and/or groups, writing policies, procedures, memoranda, and training materials. Interpersonal skills are necessary to handle disputes between service/specialties/nursing staff and Prosthetic, Acquisition and other staff regarding surgical implant requests and requirements and initiating negotiable solutions must also be demonstrated. Skill in explaining and organizing complex issues in writing concerning surgical implants is also required. Knowledge of Implantable devices in regard to VISN6 directives and compliance guidelines, HCPS and ICD codes. Must have a knowledge of inventory, receiving, distribution, organization, storage and rotation of implantable supplies for detection of outdates, and stock level maintenance

Duties for this position are - but not limited to :

• Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care
• Communicate effectively with healthcare members - vendors - and patients to ensure continuity of care within the Veterans Affairs (VA) health care system
• Responsible to patients and provider's requests to ensure customer satisfaction which reflects an understanding of implants and tissue processes Coordinate all aspects of implant management by working with Supply Chain Management (SCM) - Prosthetic and Sensory Aid Service (PSAS) - Sterile Processing Service (SPS) - the Contracting Officer (CO) - and other clinical areas using implants
• Reconcile implants used with VA-owned inventory and vendor consignment stock or list to ensure that adequate stock is available Apply advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning - decision-making - and evaluating outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting Use nursing expertise to lead improvement - with demonstrated outcomes - beyond the immediate practice setting Communicate as an effective leader
