Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval – award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. United States citizenship; non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from a VA approved school. Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Alternatives include: one year of post‑medical‑school training followed by two years of independent practice; or non‑U.S. residency training followed by a minimum of three years of independent practice in the United States. Residents currently enrolled in an ACGME/AOA accredited residency program and who otherwise meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent basis. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Completion of an accredited residency training program in general psychiatry. BLS certification is preferred. Physical requirements: must pass a pre‑employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019; light lifting up to 15 lbs., frequent reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking & standing up to 8 hours, and bending and climbing. The incumbent must be emotionally and mentally stable to efficiently perform the essential functions of this position without hazard to themselves or others. Duties Provide treatment for beneficiaries with general psychiatric disorders in a variety of treatment settings. Utilize tele‑mental health services as appropriate based on patient needs. Conduct psychotherapy and psychopharmacology, producing comprehensive clinical summaries. Collaborate with approved fee‑based community mental health inpatient programs to aid discharge planning, medication management, and follow‑up appointments. Coordinate with ambulatory care services as appropriate. Ensure compliance with accreditation requirements for all applicable survey and inspection processes, including JCAHO, CARF, and OIG. Document patient care in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) in accordance with VA policy and standards for timeliness and content. Follow all VA guidelines regarding infection control and safety. Participate in assigned treatment teams and attend required team meetings. Conduct compensation and pension examinations/reviews as needed for VA benefit decisions. Provide comprehensive clinical psychiatric evaluations, treatment evaluations, treatment plans, and treatment orders. Write admission and transfer orders as required by campus policies. Adhere to all quality management performance measures, reviewed monthly through peer reviews (Missed Opportunities, New/Established Patient Wait Times, Clinical Reminders, Pertinence Reviews, encounter completion). Follow the work schedule of 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Benefits Competitive salary with annual performance bonuses and regular salary increases.
