Psychologist - School Psychologist
Position Overview

School psychologists work in K-12 schools to support students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development.

They conduct psychoeducational assessments, provide counseling and behavioral interventions, and collaborate with teachers, families, and specialists to support students' learning and welfare.

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychoeducational assessments and tests to determine learning needs
• Develop and implement intervention plans and support IEP/504 processes
• Provide individual and group counseling and crisis response as needed
• Consult with teachers, families, and administrators to implement effective supports in the classroom
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate referrals and services
• Document findings, progress, and outcomes; maintain student confidentiality
• Educate parents and staff on mental health and behavior strategies

Qualifications

Education:

Doctoral degree in School Psychology (PhD/PsyD) or Education Specialist (Ed.S.) from an NASP-aligned program; successful completion of an approved internship.

Licensure:

State credential as a School Psychologist or license to practice psychology with school endorsement; eligible for credentialing as required by the state.

Certifications:

• Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) preferred
• Crisis intervention training or equivalent safety endorsement preferred

Experience or Skills:

Experience conducting psychoeducational assessments, supporting IEP/504 planning, and collaborating with educators and families; strong data-driven decision making and communication skills.

Experience

• Experience conducting psychoeducational testing with diverse student populations
• Experience supporting IEP/504 development and progress monitoring
• Experience collaborating with teachers, parents, and school administrators

Preferred

• Experience with MTSS/RTI frameworks and data-based decision making
• Bilingual abilities or demonstrated cultural competence
• Experience delivering school-based counseling and crisis response

Work Environment

Typically based in public or private schools, working with students, teachers, and families in a multidisciplinary team.

Normal school-day hours with possible after-school meetings; documentation in school information systems; frequent collaboration with classroom staff and administrators; travel between campuses as needed.
