Paraprofessional Attendance Intervention Specialist – Northern Middle School (Grant‑Funded) Grade 10 – Step 1. Starting hourly rate: $24.23. Potential future earnings on the ESP Salary Scale: $24.23 – $43.82. Requires 7 hours per day, 10‑month work year. Reports to the Building Administrator. Additional steps will be considered for Pre‑K‑12 teaching experience under state‑issued professional licensure. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED. Must meet Highly Qualified status (A.A. Degree, 48 credit hours, or have successfully passed the Paraprofessional Praxis Test). Experience working with at‑risk youth. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree. Effective interpersonal and organizational skills. Training and experience working with populations relevant to the assigned school. Experience in education and/or human or social services. Effective technology skills. Role Responsibilities Identify students who were chronically absent for the previous school year and create individual plans to monitor student attendance for the current school year. Meet with students who had a high number of absences and their parent(s)/guardian(s) prior to the start of the school year to create a monitoring plan and set expectations for attendance. Monitor daily student attendance of identified students and of all students for patterns and number of absences to proactively work with newly identified students. Proactively communicate with parent(s)/guardian(s) of students who are absent at least one day/week for multiple weeks in a row, absent for two or more days within a given week, and at various other absence numbers to be determined. Make home visits for students who have three or more consecutive days of absence. Coordinate and conduct meetings with parent(s)/guardian(s) of students who are habitually absent. Create and implement individual student attendance plans for identified students as they meet the pre‑determined criteria. Utilize fund sources to create and implement school‑wide attendance incentives. Utilize fund sources to create and implement attendance incentives for students close to being chronically absent. Work collaboratively with the PPW regarding students who need PPW intervention prior to reaching a chronic absence threshold. Communicate with students and parent(s)/guardian(s) through meetings/phone calls when students have been absent 12 days total. Communication will include explaining that no more parent notes will be accepted for future absences and that for future absences to be excused only medical/court documentation will be accepted. Other attendance‑related duties and procedures as assigned. Develop effective working relationships with families through correspondence, school meetings, phone conferences and home visits. Maintain all student and personnel documentation as required and submit it in a timely fashion. Maintain confidentiality of student information. Participate in attendance‑related meetings and professional development at the school and district level. Demonstrate a courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools. Other duties as requested.
