Companion Care / Respite Care Provider – A Role with Heart, Art, and Conversation

Madison, WI | Part-Time | 25.00/hour (based on experience)

Are you someone who loves deep conversation, art, and making a real difference—one laugh, one watercolor, one walk at a time?

We’re looking for a warm, thoughtful companion for a truly remarkable woman. She’s a retired leader in government and nonprofits, a lifelong artist, a Harvard grad, and one of the most genuinely curious people you’ll ever meet. She lives for great conversation—politics, gardening, feminism, books, you name it—and she still finds joy in teaching, drawing, and sharing stories.

She’s easy to be with, witty, and full of wisdom. She might need a gentle nudge now and then—and she’ll forget she just washed her hair—but she’ll also listen intently, connect ideas in surprising ways, and make you feel truly seen.

This isn’t your average caregiving job. It’s a rare mix of hands-on support and intellectually rich companionship. One moment you’re helping with stretches or prepping a snack, the next you’re exploring a virtual museum, baking together, or getting editing tips from a former writing pro. You’ll bring your own interests to the table too—she’s endlessly curious about the people she spends time with.

What you’ll bring:

• Experience and training in dementia care (formal education is a big plus).
• A knack for clear, compassionate communication.
• A sharp eye for mood shifts and quiet patience.
• Real warmth, humor, and adaptability when plans change.
• Comfort with personal care, light housekeeping, and documentation (daily logs, food logs).
• Reliabilityyou're one of only a few support people, so punctuality and clear communication matter.
• A valid drivers license, insured vehicle, and clean driving record (mileage reimbursed).
• Willingness to complete a background check.

A typical shift (4 hours, between noon–6pm) includes:

• A neighborhood walk (30 min).
• Leading physical therapy exercises.
• Reading aloud to her (she loves this).
• Meal/snack prep and gentle hydration reminders.
• Light housekeeping.
• Personal care as needed.
• Creative time: painting, drawing, museum tours, garden planning, or baking.
• Rich conversation (sometimes deep, sometimes silly).
• Optional: help with your English or writing projects; she genuinely enjoys it.
