About This Role

Golden Key Center for Exceptional Children: an accredited non-public special needs charter school serving the needs of children with Autism and other developmental disabilities.

We are currently hiring Paraprofessionals to support students in our specialized, non-public charter school serving Preschool through 8th grade .

What You'll Do

In this role, you’ll work closely with teachers and school leadership to support students in both educational and daily living activities. No two days are the same—and that’s part of what makes this work so rewarding.

You will:

  • Support students in small groups or one-on-one learning environments
  • Reinforce classroom instruction and help maintain a positive learning space
  • Assist with daily living needs such as feeding, hygiene, and mobility (training provided)
  • Follow individualized education and behavior plans
  • Monitor student behavior and provide support when needed
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to prepare materials and track student progress
  • Help ensure a safe, respectful, and structured classroom environment

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain a demonstrated philosophy that all students can and will learn.
  • Checks with assigned staff for instructions. Works with small groups and/or individual students.
  • Seeks advice when expectations are unclear.
  • Helps students with remedial and/or enrichment activities.
  • Reinforces instructional objectives introduced by the teacher. Maintains a positive learning environment.
  • Offers help when students ask or their behavior suggests they need assistance. Avoids being intrusive. Solves student concerns discreetly.
  • Works with appropriate staff on gathering and preparing materials and maintaining required documents.
  • Follows prescribed medical plans and/or assists students with personal hygiene care as trained by a licensed professional.
  • Follows The Golden Key’s feeding protocols and philosophy.
  • Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Takes precautions to ensure staff/student safety. Does not leave students unsupervised.
  • Watches for student behavior that may indicate a problem (e.g., profanity, teasing, bullying, distress, etc.). Intervenes and/or reports concerns to an administrator.
  • Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code.
  • Participates in implementation of individual education plans.
  • Effectively follows outlined behavior plans.
  • Perform other specific duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an Associate’s Degree, High School Diploma.
  • Experience with Special Needs Students in an educational setting

Nice To Haves

  • Current Educational Aide Permit with Ohio Department of Education & Workforce, or current qualifications to apply
