Cold Heading & Thread Rolling Setup Operator
Location: Danboro, PA
Schedule: 2nd Shift, 3:30 PM–12:00 AM, Monday–Thursday
You clock in as the second shift comes to life. After reviewing the job packets for the evening's runs, you prep dies, pull the right tooling, and bring the cold heading and thread rolling machines online. Throughout the shift, you verify dimensions with micrometers and dial calipers, compare profiles on the optical comparator, and use tri-roll gauges to confirm thread accuracy. You notice a variance trending on an SPC chart, make the needed adjustments, and replace a worn tool—all documented and communicated to the team lead. Before midnight, you top off oil levels and leave the machines ready for the next day.
What you'll handle- Set up and operate both cold heading and thread rolling machines to produce parts within spec.
- Apply precision measurement techniques using micrometers, dial calipers, optical comparators, tri-roll gauges, and other gauges as needed.
- Use shop support equipment to prepare and condition dies for cold heading and thread rolling operations.
- With assistance, troubleshoot equipment issues, replace broken or worn tooling, and make machine adjustments to maintain tolerances.
- Obtain the correct Job Packet(s) from the Cold Heading Tool Crib—routers, part drawings, specifications, and SPC trend charts included.
- Access the appropriate bill of materials from the shop-floor computer and pull the correct machine tooling per the BOM.
- Install and remove tooling using wrenches and other hand tools safely and efficiently.
- Remove old wire stock from the header and draw new coiled wire using an in-line wire drawer.
- Identify and report faulty machine operation, defective materials/equipment, drawing discrepancies, or any unusual conditions to the setup person or team leader.
- Maintain proper machine oil levels each day to support reliable operation.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical machining training is a plus.
- Hands-on experience in a manual machining environment.
- Mechanical aptitude with solid problem-solving ability.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
