Phlebotomist III Site Lead Location: Oak Park, IL Schedule: Monday to Friday, hours may vary between 8:00 AM and 8:30 PM, with rotational weekends Pay: $22.94 – $26.40 per hour (subject to experience, education and certifications) Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Job Summary The PSR III – Site Lead represents the face of Quest Diagnostics to patients who come for routine health checks or for insights into life‑defining health decisions. The role involves drawing quality blood samples from patients, preparing specimens for lab testing, ensuring the highest standards of safety and accuracy, and creating a trusting atmosphere. The PSR III oversees daily activity at a Patient Service Center (PSC) or In‑Office Phlebotomy (IOP), leads more than one PSR on site, and may provide coverage at multiple locations. The position requires strong leadership, customer‑service skills, and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a high‑volume setting. Responsibilities Collect specimens according to established procedures (drug screens, biometric screening, insurance exams, etc.). Administer oral solutions as trained. Research and verify test/client information, ensuring all written and electronic orders are correct using lab technology systems. Complete all data‑entry requirements accurately, including patient registration, test order entry, and management of standing orders. Enter billing information and collect payments when required, safeguarding assets and credit‑card information. Process specimens: label, centrifuge, split, and freeze as required by test order. Perform clerical duties such as inventory management, stocking supplies, and answering phones when needed. Read, understand, and enforce departmental policies, manuals, and procedures. Verify patient demographic information and signatures post‑venipuncture to ensure correct labeling. Assist with compilation and submission of monthly statistics and data. Maintain phlebotomy logs, temperature logs, and other required documentation. Complete required training courses and stay up‑to‑date with the latest phlebotomy techniques. Travel to Territory Manager meetings if held off‑site or off normal shift. Participate on special projects and teams. Stay current on company communications and distribute technical information to the work group. Perform point‑of‑care (POC) testing at sites where needed and complete training and competency evaluations per SOP. Mentor and support new employees, assisting with transition into the PSC work environment. Assist with periodic inventory counts, report shortages or problems to the group leader or supervisor. Help prepare schedules for the assigned work group or PSCs. Communicate professionally with clients to resolve or refer issues, documenting problem reports and critical incidents. Ensure staff follows safety precautions (laboratory coat, gloves, face shield). Assist supervisors with SOP implementation and distribution of technical information. Maintain a clean, well‑maintained facility and report needed repairs. Provide effective onboarding services to new clients. Partner with supervisor and group lead to assist the transition of new offices for PSCs and IOPs. Step in for a PSR II and lead one or more PSRs on site. Qualifications Required Work Experience Five years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections. Keyboard and data‑entry experience. Flexible and available based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on‑call, and overtime. Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record, if applicable. Travel and flexible hours required to work multiple locations with minimal notice. Preferred Work Experience Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred. Minimum three years in a Patient Service Center (PSC) or In‑Office (IOP) environment preferred. Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred. Physical and Mental Requirements Lift light to moderately heavy objects (1–15 lb, 16–25 lb, 26–40 lb) as described; objects over 41 lb require assistance. Stand or sit for long periods; requires long hours of eye and hand coordination. Perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently. Position requires travel. Extensive use of phone and PC. Fine dexterity, steadiness, speaking, walking, balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting. Education High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required) Languages English (Required) Licenses and Certifications Phlebotomy certification (required in certain states such as California, Nevada, Washington, and Louisiana); preferred otherwise.
