Parts & Inventory Specialist

Job Title

Under direct supervision, orders, receives, stores, and issues a variety of parts, equipment, materials, and supplies; and performs other work as required.

Representative Duties

The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of this class. They are descriptive, not limiting. Essential duties include ordering, receiving, storing, and issuing a variety of parts, equipment, materials, and supplies; issuing substitute parts based on knowledge of interchangeability; operating a vehicle and forklift to pick-up, deliver, load, and unload parts, equipment, materials, and supplies; performing inventories to ensure adequate levels of stock are available and advising superiors regarding need for purchases; checking and preparing reports of materials received; maintaining stock records and preparing inventory reports; reordering stock as necessary based on acceptable usage levels to ensure reasonable on-hand stock and to avoid over stocking; and properly maintaining parts, equipment, materials, and supplies in storage status.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduated from high school or GED program AND
• One (1) year of experience with computerized inventory including the procurement, storage, recording, and issuing of parts, equipment, materials, and supplies related to Fleet Services.
• Possession of a valid Class "C" California driver's license.

Highly desirable:

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Adobe software
• 10-Key Data Entry
• Customer Service

Physical conditions or special working conditions:

• Standard office environment and working conditions
• Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in a maintenance environment

Examination

Oral appraisal interview (weighted 100%): June 11, 2026 (tentative). An appraisal will be made of the applicant's experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required. Admission to the examination may be limited to those applicants who demonstrate the best combination of qualifications. Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed admittance to the examination.
