MRI Technologist IThe MRI Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates MRI Scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. This equipment includes scanner, post processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment. Essential functions include examining requests and verifying orders on each assigned patient, referring and questioning orders to the Radiologist before performing exam, contacting ordering provider when there are discrepancies, properly identifying and assisting patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures, preparing patients for the procedure with a full explanation and documenting on appropriate worksheets, interviewing patients for a complete medical history, reviewing in-patients, ER, and outpatients EMR's to obtain pertinent clinical history, recording medical history on requisitions, correlating other test results and laboratory data with exam being performed, assuming responsibility for the exam from beginning of exam until completion of dictated results, preparing and administering IV contrast according to departmental protocols, evaluating technical quality of images and consulting with a Radiologist if needed, recognizing abnormal anatomy and processing any additional, reconstructed images, and/or measurements as instructed, performing basic patient care functions, informing appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient's condition, initiating life support measures for patients when necessary, assisting in "code blue" procedures during medical emergencies, performing MRI scanning and assisting Physicians/PA during invasive procedures, practicing proper sterile technique in the preparation of necessary supplies, performing all invasive procedures in accordance with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies and procedures, obtaining medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, practicing principle of radiation safety for self, employees, patients and family members, following appropriate radiation safety standards, reporting malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer, maintaining knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease, adhering to the hospital fire and safety procedures, attending all in-service classes and completing all required safety modules, operating radiology computer system to include entering orders and charging procedures/supplies, documenting contrast administration in the MAR, maintaining assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion, keeping area completely stocked, cleaning all work areas to promote cleanliness in the workplace, assisting other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams or services in conjunction with a MRI scan, maintaining knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for both staff and patients while in and around magnetic fields. Physical requirements include moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation. Frequently may be required to stretch, bend twist, squat or kneel in the daily operation of the MRI department. May be exposed to various physical conditions throughout the day such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, being near moving equipment. Required to use radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizing radiation. Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or active enrollment in a ARMRIT or ARRT registry eligible program required. ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology, ARRT or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine with advanced registry from the ARMRIT or ARRT in MRI required within one year of hire. CPR certification required through AHA.
