Summer Research Program Intern 2027, Electronics for Contested Space (Group 09-94)

The Electronics for Contested Space Group develops advanced electronic systems and technology for the protection of our Nation’s most important space capabilities. We design and develop state-of-the-art satellites and satellite payloads, novel concepts for resilient space architectures, and the Nation’s most sensitive radars, optics, and passive RF systems. The group also provides engineering rigor and experience to some of the most critical National Security programs through Laboratory-wide collaboration and acts in an advisory capacity to the U.S. Government. Examples of recent projects include the prototyping of electronic systems and effects, hardware-in-the-loop testing of tactically relevant payloads with surrogate threat systems, developing RF subsystems for satellites, and analysis of spacecraft mission dynamics, environments, and resiliency.

Position Description

The Electronics for Contested Space Group (Group 94) is seeking a Summer Intern to help analyze, design, develop, and test the next generation of resilient space systems, electronics, and architectures. Activities may include electronics and/or RF design, electromagnetic analysis, hardware development, integration and test, test automation, embedded systems development, systems analysis, and data analysis. Requirements / Skills Currently enrolled in a degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering or a related technical field. Completed at least through sophomore year at time of employment. Relevant coursework, interest, and experience with at least one of the following areas: analog / digital electronics design, power system design, RF design, radar applications, signal processing, satellite subsystem development, PCB layout, or test automation (LabView, GPIB, etc.). Familiarity with C/C++, MATLAB, Python, or other scientific programming languages. Summer Research Program Overview

The Summer Research Program offers students the chance to apply their academic knowledge to real-world national security challenges while working alongside leading scientists and engineers. As an SRP intern, you’ll engage in hands-on research, receive dedicated mentorship, and take part in professional development opportunities including workshops, tech talks, and networking events—all while building connections within a vibrant community of peers. Internships are typically 10–12 weeks, with flexible start and end dates, typically May through early August. Housing support is available for eligible non-local interns, including access to discounted university housing in Boston and a one-time taxable relocation payment. Complimentary daily shuttle transportation is provided from Boston-based housing to and from the Lab. Rates are based on the highest academic year or degree completed before the internship start date.
