Role Overview

This is one of the highest‑leverage quantitative research roles in the marketplace space. You will co‑create the quantitative research roadmap, bring research into high‑impact product decisions, and work directly with cross‑functional leadership, including the CEO. The role is embedded within product and design, focusing on pricing and marketplace dynamics in a peer‑to‑peer environment.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead quantitative research across product, design, marketing, and strategy functions.
• Shape product roadmap decisions and strategically de‑risk investments before they’re made.
• Translate complex findings into narratives that move product, design, business, and leadership audiences.
• Mentor the research team and define the future of quantitative practice at Turo.
• Design and execute large‑scale studies (surveys, conjoint analyses, experiments, A/B tests, and behavioral data analyses).
• Partner with Data Engineering and Analytics to establish pipelines, instrumentation, and logging infrastructure that support research at scale.
• Leverage AI‑assisted tools to accelerate research velocity and establish team standards for AI‑generated outputs.
• Mentor other researchers on experimental design, statistical rigor, and quantitative methods.
• Flex into qualitative methods (interviews, usability studies, mixed‑methods triangulation) when the question requires it.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional research experience, with at least 4 years of quantitative UX research on consumer software.
• Strong portfolio of quantitative studies that demonstrably shaped product strategy and roadmap decisions.
• Deep expertise in experimental design, survey methodology, statistical analysis, and behavioral data analysis.
• Proficiency in R, Python, and/or SQL; experience analyzing large datasets and surfacing actionable patterns.
• Experience with pricing research methods (conjoint, van Westendorp, willingness‑to‑pay, elasticity modeling).
• Experience conducting research on a two‑sided marketplace, platform, or peer‑to‑peer product.
• Experience partnering with Data Engineering or Analytics teams on instrumentation, logging, or pipeline work.
• Demonstrated fluency with AI‑assisted research tools.
• Exceptional storytelling skills that translate quantitative complexity into clear narratives for PMs, data scientists, and executives.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to push back with confidence.
• Comfort flexing into qualitative methods when necessary.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Master’s or Ph.D. in HCI, Psychology, Data Science, Statistics, Behavioral Economics, or a related field is a bonus.
• Experience in transportation, travel, mobility, or marketplace/growth‑focused product teams.
• Familiarity with causal inference methods (difference‑in‑differences, regression discontinuity, propensity score matching).
• History of mentoring other quantitative researchers.

Salary and Benefits

Target base salary range in SanFrancisco: $212,000–$265,000 per year. The role also includes equity and a benefits package that covers medical, dental, vision, retirement with employer match, learning & development stipend, host matching program, travel credit, phone and internet stipend, paid time off, holidays, volunteer time off, and parental leave. Hybrid in‑office presence: office 3days per week (Mon, Wed, Thu).
