Occupation Therapist Acute/Inpatient rehab; 4-10s (Sun-Wed/Wed-Sat)

Job Summary Assesses patients then develops and initiates treatment plans based on evaluation results. The evaluation may include tests and measurement of physical, cognitive, perceptual and developmental skills to maximize the client’s independence in occupational performance areas. Provides direct patient care, documents findings, and instructs patients and caregivers. May assist Level II/III occupational therapists and leadership with program development, provide training and guidance to students, interns and staff, and supervise assistants and rehabilitation technicians in patient care. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university‑based program. Licenses/Certifications Current or temporary license to practice Occupational Therapy by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners. Current certification in Basic Life Support. Experience / Knowledge / Skills Occasional or frequent lifting up to 75–100 pounds and carrying up to 30 pounds; prolonged standing; frequent walking, stooping, and squatting. Fine hand dexterity, eye–hand coordination, ability to receive oral and written communication, and to communicate verbally and in writing. Visual ability to monitor instruments, computers and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors, and observe physical characteristics. Principal Accountabilities Assumes responsibility for patient care, performs comprehensive evaluations, interprets findings, develops written plans of care, and establishes goals. Implements occupational therapy treatment programs, performs basic OT skills, and supervises COTAs and rehab technicians. Assesses patients periodically to monitor progress, adjust goals and plans as needed. Motivates and instructs patients and caregivers using appropriate methods. Communicates effectively with patients, caregivers, and professional colleagues, including physicians and insurance companies. Presents relevant topics in professional literature at meetings and conferences as requested. Manages time effectively and documents appropriately in the medical record. May serve as clinical instructor for OT or OTA interns. Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards, while managing time, supplies, and quality of service within budget. Promotes professional growth and development by meeting mandatory continuing education and skills competency requirements, serving as preceptor, mentor, and resource for less experienced staff. Demonstrates commitment to caring for every community member by creating compassionate and personalized experiences, modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
