Job Summary This position patrols designated areas, enforces state laws and City ordinances, responds to emergency situations, educates the public regarding safety and security, and performs administrative duties. Relocation & Compensation Relocation assistance and a $4,000 signing bonus are available. Annual salary (In Academy) will reflect $77,146.98. Upon graduation, annual salary will reflect $81,004.33. Failure in any section results in removal from the process. Oral Board Interview Location: 07/25/2026 (scheduling and timeslots TBD) Police Officer Physical Aptitude Test (POPAT) Run a 99‑yard obstacle course Lift and drag 165‑pound dummy Climb 6‑foot chain link fence Climb 6‑foot solid fence Run 500 yards Push‑ups (M‑35/F‑16) Sit‑ups (M‑38/F‑20) Oral Board Interview (July 25 at Goodyear City Hall, 1900 N Civic Square, Goodyear, AZ 85395) Applicants who pass the physical agility, written examination, and pre‑screen will be invited to interview. Evaluation focused on problem‑solving, interpersonal skills, communication, demeanor, and appearance. Unsuccessful applicants may re‑apply after 60 days from the testing date. Background Investigation After successful completion of the oral board interview, applicants will receive a background packet. Polygraph Examination Applicants will undergo a polygraph examination administered by a qualified, state‑licensed examiner, covering criminal activity, drug usage, truthfulness, integrity, and employment history. Psychological Evaluation The psychological evaluation consists of written tests and an interview with a certified psychologist. Controlled Substance Screening & Medical Evaluation Applicants will be required to submit to controlled‑substance screening and a medical examination. Citizen of the United States. Valid driver’s license. High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to pass required tests outlined and comprehensive background examination, including polygraph, psychological, medical, and substance screening. No prior experience required. Proficiency in reading, writing, math, and basic office skills. Field Training Program Completion of a 14‑week Field Training Program. Demonstrate ability to write clear, concise, accurate reports. Learn geography of the City, responding efficiently to calls. Interpret laws, policies, and procedures, applying good judgment. Develop firearms proficiency through training. Engage the public professionally and community‑oriented. Recall names, faces, and details for court testimony. Analyze situations and adopt quick, effective action under stress. Issue appropriate parking, traffic, and criminal citations accurately. Work well with colleagues and supervisors, practicing communication and teamwork. Maintain a clean uniform and high standard of personal hygiene. Operate patrol vehicles safely, without accidents, practicing good driving habits.
