Mammography Technologist

Job Description Purpose of Position: Perform screening and diagnostic mammographic exams and bone density exams. Technologist will also assist radiologists with needle localizations and stereotactic exams. Assures that bone density, mammography, and stereotactic equipment are operable, assuring MSQA compliance by completing all necessary quality assurance checks, maintaining accurate documentation. Prepares exam rooms with necessary mammographic and stereotactic equipment/devices and orders appropriate patient supplies. Receives and reviews requisitions, and radiologists' last dictated reports to ensure previous images are available for radiologist. Consults with radiologist, as needed for any clarification of ordered mammography exams based upon last dictated reports and patient history. Provides patient with explanation of the radiologic examination to be performed and ensures patient education has been provided, including differences between screening mammograms and diagnostic mammograms process and results. Assures that the required patient history questionnaire is completed. Clarifies any patient history to assure accuracy. Recommends referral to nurse practitioner if patient identifies any new breast symptoms or has not had a physical breast exam in last year. Takes care of patients during exams and procedures to ensure safety and comfort. Performs mammographic and stereotactic procedures, safely operating equipment for screening and diagnosing of breast abnormalities. Follows established policies/procedures set by the department leaders and other organizations, including the ARRT, MSQA, NAPBC, and DPH. Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency using and/or modifying established procedures to ensure timely completion of work in conformance with department policies and procedures. Participates in activities which promote professional self‑growth and development; meets minimum requirements for continuing education directed by the ARRT and the Massachusetts State Licensing for mammography. Maintains ethical relationships with patients, physicians, and staff to ensure patient confidentiality at all times. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and coworkers. Performs other work‑related duties as assigned or requested. Qualifications Ability to read, write, and communicate in English. High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited radiography program. Valid Massachusetts State License for Radiography and Mammography. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Current BLS certification. Schedule Details Per Diem Hours, Rotating Days, Occasional Weekends and No Holidays. Organization Falmouth Hospital Association Primary Location Massachusetts – Falmouth Department FHA‑Breast Care Center Remuneration Hourly: $37.56 – $55.23 per hour The pay range displayed on each job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as work history, experience, skill set, and education.
