RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB ACTIVITIES:

1. Provide technical expertise in the area of Process Chemistry.

2. Independently scout new chemical reaction pathways that might be useful for future inclusion on larger scale.

3. Scale synthetic routes validated on kilo scale into multi-kilo scale reactors (400L, 800L, 2000L)

4. Develop robust chemical processes that can be transferred to technical manufacturing/chemical operators.

5. Identify and implement necessary process equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation of technical manufacturing.

6. Train Chemical Operators and Production Chemist to safely perform scaled routes.

7. Routinely analyze and interpret 1-dimension and 2-dimension proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra (1D-1H-NMR, 2D-1H-NMR) to assign molecular structures.

8. Routinely perform and analyze Ultra High-Pressure Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-MS).

9. Assist in the preparation of data for regulatory filings on chemical syntheses of active ingredients.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION Ph.D. in Chemistry

EXPERIENCE 10 years’ experience or M.S. in chemistry with 20 years’ hands-on chemistry process scale up experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Strong background in scientific procedure: Data analysis, experimental design, project management, and technical writing proficiencies are required.  Basic understanding of and willingness to learn statistical concepts. Previous statistical experience using JMP, or similar statistical software would be an advantage. Expertise with chemical reaction searching database, SciFinder. Experience with large scale reactors (200L to 2000L), process equipment. Basic understanding of Quality Control measures such as Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) or current Good Manufacturing Process (cGMP). Hands-on experience would be an advantage. Expertise in LCMS, NMR, and other chemical structural analytical methods. Demonstrated success working in manufacturing/technical production environments.
