Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Summary The sky is no longer the limit as Nidec takes its technology off the ground and into the aerospace market. As a Mechanical Design Engineer with the Nidec Aerospace team, you will have the opportunity to apply and develop your expertise to design electric propulsion systems for battery‑powered aircraft that will enable the world to sustainably and efficiently get from point A to point B. Responsibilities Develop advanced electric motors for aerospace applications based on customer requirements. Take ownership of conceptualizing system requirements and transform them into an airworthy product. Create 3‑D models and 2‑D drawings for production solutions using Creo; specify required tolerances and critical‑to‑quality features for components and assemblies. Make design considerations for mass and topology optimization, structural integrity, thermal optimization, and safety. Generate preliminary Bill of Materials (BOM) for the product. Solve mechanical design challenges to improve system performance, focusing on mass, efficiency, cost, durability, reliability, ease of assembly, and safety. Work with Multiphysics team (structural, CFD, thermal) to ensure design meets all internal and external requirements. Communicate proposed designs to functional groups inside and outside Engineering. Work directly with external suppliers to optimize designs for tooled components. Participate in First‑Piece Article inspection / APQP / PPAP processes for newly specified components. Participate in technical design reviews for newly developed solutions with cross‑functional teams. Travel ( Qualifications / Technical Attributes and Experience Required Ability to work with and learn from a cross‑functional team. Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis. Knowledge of component and assembly analysis methods. Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail. Effective written and oral communication skills. Creative, out-of-the-box thinking. Ability to handle competing demands and support multiple, concurrent programs. Experience in electric motors and drives or a similar industry. Experience with diverse metal manufacturing methods. Experience with injection‑molded parts, composite manufacturing, and aerospace‑common materials. Experience designing components for aerospace applications. Experience with structural FEA (ANSYS preferred). Minimum Requirements BS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering. 3 years’ experience in electric motors and drives or a similar industry. Proficiency in Creo 3‑D CAD solid modeling for new product design.
