Our client, a busy civil defense litigation firm is looking for a paralegal to assist their team in Oakland, CA. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity where you can contribute to case development, motion preparation, and trial readiness across a variety of civil matters. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical judgment, effective communication skills, and the ability to manage records, deadlines, and legal documentation with accuracy. This role offers hybrid flexibility after the training period. Once the training period is completed, the candidate can transition to a 4 day a week on-site, one day at home schedule.

Responsibilities:

• Examine discovery materials to determine which documents and records should be obtained through subpoenas.
• Review medical documentation and diagnostic imaging, then prepare clear summaries for attorney use.
• Organize, assess, and compile evidence to support dispositive motions, hearings, and trial preparation.
• Maintain accurate time entries and record completed work within the firm's billing platform.
• Coordinate with attorneys, clients, expert witnesses, and outside professionals to gather case information and support litigation needs.
• Assist with case file management to ensure documents, records, and deadlines are tracked efficiently.
• Contribute to litigation support activities across a range of civil defense matters handled by the firm.

Qualifications

• Completion of an American Bar Association-approved paralegal program or alternative qualifications recognized under California Business and Professions Code section 6450.
• Prior paralegal experience is preferred; however, other relevant experience will also be considered.
• Working knowledge of civil litigation processes, including discovery review and trial preparation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to work effectively with case management and billing systems.
• Strong organizational skills with careful attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Sound analytical abilities and confidence in reviewing records and identifying relevant case information.
• Effective interpersonal and written communication skills for interaction with attorneys, clients, experts, and other professionals.
• Experience in legal research and writing is a plus.
