Senior Business Intelligence Engineer (Snowflake, Power BI)- Remote-NY

Creates complex Enterprise-class data assets that provide business insight and aid business decision-making. Assets will include (but are not limited to) reports, visualizations, dashboards, and data extracts. Produces complex reports and performs meaningful quantitative or qualitative analyses addressing impactful business issues or questions. Combines these reports with subject-matter expertise to deliver coherent, insightful takeaways comprehensive read-outs, and advice/recommendations grounded in what our data is telling us.

Education/Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or business field (e.g., statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science) and Requires 4 6 years of related experience.

Or equivalent experience acquired through accomplishments of applicable knowledge, duties, scope and skill reflective of the level of this position.

The team provides critical oversight of the Technology Operations' portfolio, labor, and financial performance. The team is responsible for ensuring responsible stewardship of departmental investments by managing resource and timesheet compliance, monitoring hardware, software, and labor expenditures, and maintaining visibility into portfolio forecasts and actual spend. Through proactive analysis and governance, the team identifies and addresses financial, staffing, and operational variances, enabling leadership to make informed decisions and maintain alignment with organizational objectives.

This position is essential to sustaining the team's ability to deliver accurate financial and resource insights, support strategic planning efforts, and maintain the governance processes that ensure compliance and fiscal accountability across the department. As the scope and complexity of the portfolio continue to grow, dedicated ownership of these responsibilities is necessary to ensure timely analysis, effective decision-making, and uninterrupted operational support.

What are the performance expectations/metrics?

What makes this role unique? This role serves as the primary business intelligence and analytics resource for the Technology Operations Portfolio and Financial Management team, with responsibility for maintaining, enhancing, and developing Power BI solutions that provide critical insights into financial performance, portfolio health, resource allocation, and compliance metrics. Daily responsibilities include supporting and optimizing existing dashboards, troubleshooting data and reporting issues, developing new visualizations and reporting capabilities, partnering with stakeholders to gather and refine requirements, and translating business needs into actionable analytics solutions. The role also requires leveraging Microsoft 365 technologies, including Power BI and Power Apps, as well as Snowflake, to support data integration, automation, and reporting initiatives.

Success in this position requires a highly self-sufficient and proactive individual who can independently manage priorities while effectively collaborating with business partners and team members. Performance expectations include maintaining the accuracy, reliability, and effectiveness of existing reporting assets, delivering new dashboard capabilities in alignment with leadership priorities, and providing timely, data-driven insights that support operational and strategic decision-making. The individual must be comfortable working in an iterative environment, engaging stakeholders throughout the development process to ensure solutions evolve with business needs and deliver meaningful value.

Preferred Education:

Batchelor's degree in: Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Data Science, Management Information Systems (MIS) or a related technical field.

Preferred Certifications:

Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300), which validates skills in data preparation, modeling, visualization, DAX, Power Query, and Power BI administration.

Preferred:

Years of experience required: 5+

Disqualifiers: If they do not have experience with the following: Power BI Dashboard development, Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Apps, Power Query, Data modeling and report performance tuning, Snowflake, Excel or AI tools, such as CoPilot

Additional qualities to look for: Experience developing solutions with Power Apps and Power Automate; experience integrating Power BI with Snowflake data sources and managing refresh processes; SQL; ability to gather business requirements and deliver iterative reporting solutions; ability to effectively communicate with leadership; ability to convey complex data issues to non-technical stakeholders
