Behavioral Intervention Specialist - Staten Island

Function/Skills Assess consumer functioning by reviewing standardized instruments such as adaptive behavior scales and IQ tests. Assess informally via record reviews, staff interviews, and behavioral observation on an ongoing basis. Arrange for standardized testing to be administered as needed. Report to the IDT the findings and recommendations based on the assessment and progress of the consumer at scheduled team meetings. Develop behavioral treatment plans, monitoring plans, and behavior guidelines/protocols based on team review and recommendations; regularly conduct staff in‑services to ensure proper implementation. Monitor consumer progress through formal review of behavioral data and incidents, discuss with the treatment team at monthly IDT meetings and individual ISP meetings, and include a semi‑annual report complying with the agency format. Create special data‑collection systems beyond ABC charts when needed. Train staff on each individual’s psychological profile and needs, plus regular training on behavior plans and data collection; follow up on group training via direct observation of individual staff performance. Conduct specific staff observations on request of the IDT, administration, or Incident Review Committee. Act as the primary advocate for the individuals with external mental health or behavioral providers, including psychiatry. Prepare consultations for psychiatric appointments that detail current mental and behavioral status and include medication recommendations when appropriate. Attend regularly scheduled team meetings and residential staff meetings. Obtain informed consent for any potential consumer rights restriction, including psycho‑tropic medication or SCIP‑R physical techniques, and inform the team and relevant parties when consents are obtained. Attend monthly HRC and present individual cases at least annually to the committee for approval. Maintain ongoing records of required forms at the facility. Adhere to confidentiality standards and all HIPAA practices. Contribute to the smooth operation of the facility and the agency’s reputation by maintaining professional behavior at all times. Maintain required contact with the CAB representative for Willow Brook Class Individuals when appropriate. Maintain regular contact with the Medicaid Service Coordinator regarding psychiatric or behavioral issues. Maintain regular contact with the Psychology Services Coordinator regarding psychiatric, behavioral, and human rights matters to receive supervision and feedback. Be aware that supervision may modify or add responsibilities as regulations and best practices evolve. Perform all other duties as required. Qualifications Master’s degree in Psychology or related field required. One to three (1–3) years’ experience working with the DD population.
