Reports To: Chief Human Resources Officer
Compensation: $220,000 - $300,000 Base + Bonus + Long-Term Incentive
Position Summary
We are seeking a strategic and business-oriented Senior Director of Compensation to lead the design, execution, governance, and continuous improvement of our global compensation programs. This executive will play a critical role in ensuring compensation strategies support business objectives, attract and retain top talent, and reinforce a high-performance culture.
The Senior Director of Compensation will serve as the company's subject matter expert for broad-based compensation, executive compensation, incentive design, job architecture, pay transparency, market pricing, and compensation governance. This leader will partner closely with executive leadership, Finance, Legal, and HR business leaders to deliver scalable compensation programs that drive organizational success.
This role requires a strong combination of strategic leadership, analytical rigor, executive presence, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Compensation Strategy & Program Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive compensation strategy aligned with business objectives and talent priorities.
- Lead the design, implementation, and administration of all compensation programs including base pay, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, sales compensation, and executive compensation.
- Ensure compensation programs remain competitive, equitable, scalable, and compliant across all business units.
- Advise senior leadership on compensation trends, market competitiveness, and workforce planning considerations.
Executive Compensation
- Partner with the CHRO, CFO, CEO, and Board Compensation Committee on executive compensation matters.
- Support executive compensation program design, proxy disclosures, benchmarking, and governance activities.
- Prepare materials and analyses for Compensation Committee meetings.
- Provide strategic recommendations regarding executive pay, incentive plans, retention programs, and equity compensation.
Broad-Based Compensation
- Lead annual compensation planning processes including merit increases, promotions, incentive payouts, and market adjustments.
- Oversee job evaluation, market pricing, salary structure design, and compensation benchmarking.
- Develop and maintain compensation frameworks that support organizational growth and career progression.
- Ensure alignment between pay programs and company performance objectives.
Job Architecture & Pay Transparency
- Lead enterprise-wide job architecture initiatives including job leveling, career frameworks, and compensation structures.
- Ensure compliance with evolving pay transparency regulations and reporting requirements.
- Support pay equity analyses and remediation efforts as necessary.
- Develop compensation communications and education programs for leaders and employees.
Leadership & Team Development
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing compensation team.
- Establish performance expectations, development plans, and succession strategies.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and international compensation regulations.
- Maintain strong governance practices around compensation administration and decision-making.
- Partner with Legal, Finance, Internal Audit, and external consultants as appropriate.
- Monitor industry trends, legislative developments, and emerging compensation practices.
Analytics & Reporting
- Utilize advanced analytics to support compensation decisions and workforce planning.
- Develop executive dashboards and reporting metrics.
- Present compensation recommendations and analyses to senior leadership and the Board.
- Drive data-informed decision making across compensation programs.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, Economics, or related field.
- 12+ years of progressive compensation experience.
- 5+ years leading compensation teams in large, complex organizations.
- Deep expertise in broad-based compensation, incentive design, executive compensation, and market benchmarking.
- Experience supporting executive leadership teams and Board Compensation Committees.
- Strong analytical, financial modeling, and business acumen skills.
Preferred Experience
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP).
- Master's degree or MBA.
- Public company experience.
- Experience supporting global compensation programs.
- Experience within multinational, Fortune 1000, private equity-backed, or high-growth organizations.
