Security Guard Supervisor (Evening Shift) The University of Maryland, Baltimore Department of Police and Public Safety invites applications for a Security Guard Supervisor for the Evening Shift (4 pm – 12:30 am). The supervisor will lead a team of security guards to ensure the protection of buildings, properties, occupants and visitors during normal operations and special events. Position Overview The University of Maryland, Baltimore promotes a safe campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role is instrumental in maintaining that environment through daily security operations, training, and coordination with other university safety personnel. Primary Responsibilities Determine work priorities, distribute tasks, and review work to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance. Provide guidance and training to a team of security guards. Develop staffing schedules to ensure coverage at all established security posts; ensure each guard understands post requirements, including security log completion. Conduct audits of security logs for compliance with procedures. Review, communicate, and provide training on changes to normal routines, security alarm and camera systems, security software, badge recognition processes, and emergency procedures. Assist leadership in overseeing shift activities and provide input for performance evaluations. Perform all duties of a security guard. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity. Ability to supervise and train staff; follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively in writing and orally. Ability to complete basic reports and use laptop, desktop, and specialized computer systems for security operations. Knowledge of security system operations and protocols for physical security of staff and facilities. Skilled at diagnosing operational problems and implementing corrective action. Experience with emergency response coordination and operation of two‑way communications devices, cell phones, and desk phones. Conditions of Employment Applicants must successfully pass a thorough background investigation, and may be subject to medical inquiries and examinations. A non‑commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license valid in Maryland may be required. Random drug testing may apply. Selected candidates are not eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union). Compensation and Benefits Hiring range: $60,500 – $62,439.02 (pre‑probation), commensurate with education and experience.
