Job Description:\n\n Job Title: Driver FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Department: Operations Hours: 20-29 Hours Per Week Location: All Locations Reports to: Transportation Supervisor Job Summary: The Driver is responsible for providing transportation to members and staff for the purposes of participation at Club locations and in special trips, such as field trips or sporting events, designed to enhance BGCSTL programs that achieve predetermined program outcomes. Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Ex Experience: Minimum of one year of experience working with children in a group setting, management experience is a plus. S Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and ongoing random drug testing. Licensing Requirements:Current/Certified/Valid Commercial Driver’s License, with Class B endorsement, preferred, Class C endorsement required. No more than 3 moving violations in past three years (no alcohol or drug related convictions).Ability to drive organization vehicles and Motor Vehicle Record must meet insurability guidelines.Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services Medical Examination Report for Caregivers and Staff must meet acceptable standards from the State of Missouri, completed within 30 days of hire.TB Risk Assessment and Examination completed within 30 days of hire.Annual results of Family Care Safety Registry background screening must be deemed acceptable by the State of Missouri.Annual results of nationwide background screening must meet barrier crimes standards for organizational membership with Boys & Girls Clubs or America.Meets qualifications and ongoing training requirements per state licensing regulations (12 hrs. annually).CPR/AED & First Aid certified within 30 days of hire. Physical Requirements:Drivers will be required to submit a current medical examiner’s certificate and/or any medical variance documents that have been issued (i.e. Vision, Skills Performance or Diabetic waivers, or other exemptions) to your State Driver’s License Agency to obtain a “certified” medical status as part of your driving record.Able to lift, carry, push, pull, or roll up to 50-55 pounds.Capable of prolonged, extensive, or considerable sitting, standing, walking, and speaking and occasional twisting, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching. Ability to walk on uneven terrain, school grounds, and school buses.Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word as well as convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly in addition to perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels and ability to receive detailed information through verbal communication and make fine discriminations in sounds is necessary for the safety of the children in the program. The employee may be subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Inside weather conditions provides protection from weather conditions but not necessarily temperature changes and outside environmental conditions provides no effective protection from weather.The employee may be subject to sufficient noise to cause the employee to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. Local travel as well as some regional travel is required in performance of duties. Emotional/ Mental Demands of Work:Can read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.Routine evaluation of bus conditions, reporting, and record-keeping. Identifies and reports problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.Understands the implications of decisions on members.May handle emergency or crisis situations.Manages the distraction of many interruptions without losing concentration.Some weekend work is required. Keeps current with best practices, resources, and materials. Maintains CDL license with appropriate endorsements.Voicemail and e-mail are checked daily. Attends all meetings and events and notifies appropriate staff prior to missing a meeting/event and follows up to get important information. Skills: TransportationOperates the vehicle skillfully and safely according to all relevant laws, legislation, policies, and procedures while attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of passengers.Provides world class customer service by arriving early for member pick up, safe driving, appropriate communication, and arriving to destination early or on time. Conducts thorough pre and post bus inspections. Conducts emergency evacuation from the bus, including exiting from the emergency door.Completes a police report any time damage is done to the vehicle.Performs minor maintenance duties such as changing the oil. Essential Responsibilities: TransportationProvides timely transportation service to members/staff to/from schools to Club location or from Club location to field trip location, in compliance with BGCSTL’s policies and procedures and local laws.Personally welcomes members boarding the bus, assists backpacks/lost items, and answers questions in a friendly manner. Learns and greets members by name. Assists students in the loading and unloading process.Effectively communicates stops and safety information to members and staff; if needed, communicates with BGCSTL and school staff, transportation supervisor, using standard codes.Maintain appearance appropriate for providing customer service in accordance with established guidelines.Ensure the bus is kept tidy at all times with safety equipment and maps available. Cleans the insides of the bus including sweeping, dusting and cleaning windows. Cleans outside windows of the bus.Contribute to continuous improvement by communicating school, staff, and member feedback to supervisor and engaging in action planning to improve performance and member satisfaction.Complete any relevant paperwork in line with BGCSTL Audit and Department of Transport standards. SafetyOperates the vehicle skillfully and safely according to all relevant laws, legislation, policies, and procedures while attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of passengers.Ensures all passengers are properly seated and belted (if seatbelts are available) at all times while on the vehicle.Checks vehicle for sleeping or hiding children and/or lost articles and after dropping off passengers and prior to locking bus at the end of the day.Conducts inspections to ensure member and staff safety and brings any mechanical problems, defects, deterioration, and damage to the attention of the supervisor. Completes pre/post inspection on each and every trip and immediately provides it to transportation supervisor.Ensures that the bus is safely and securely stored. Takes appropriate action when children are injured, including both minor incidents and major accidents. Documents all types of accidents and incidents and provides to Transportation Supervisor on the day of the occurrence. Completes a police report any time damage is done to the vehicle.Responds immediately to children that are hurt or in distress and acts to comfort and assist the child appropriately. Remains calm and in control while providing first aid or CPR for the child. Assesses the situation to decide if further action should be taken if necessary, calls an ambulance or parent, depending on the severity of the situation.Understands and complies with universal precautions to avoid contact with and control blood borne pathogens Knows what a “bodily fluids clean up kit” is, what items should be included in a kit, and demonstrates how to use it.Acts appropriately if there is contact with blood borne pathogens and takes steps to prevent transmission. Appropriately reports any instances of abuse and neglect of children, as required, as a mandated reporter.Executes emergency procedures. Conducts emergency evacuation from the bus, including exiting from the emergency door. Youth Development ActivitiesAddresses children by their names and makes an effort to talk with each child every day.Participates in new member orientation process and club-wide events. Accountable for Club compliance with all federal and state laws, licensing, grants, and/or contracts, as well as, company specific policies and procedures and BGCA standards.Plays active role in passing inspections and maintaining licensing standards. Attendance/PunctualityIs consistently at work and on time.Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent by providing at least 48 hours for planned absences and at least 4 hours notice for unplanned absences.Arrives at destinations, meetings, and appointments on time. Professional DevelopmentEngages in professional development activities, and supports the professional development of others as required by the Club Director. Seeks increased responsibilities; looks for and takes advantage of professional opportunities; asks for and offers help when needed.Builds upon personal strengths and identifies areas where growth can and needs to occur.Understands the importance of attendance and staff to child ratios.Is dependable and notifies appropriate persons in advance if unable to care for children.Understands the importance of working as a team with parents and/or other staff.
