Franklin County Facilities Maintenance Technician Franklin County is seeking a dependable, skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to help keep our buildings safe, functional, and welcoming for employees and the public. In this role, you’ll tackle a wide range of maintenance tasks, troubleshoot issues with confidence, and ensure our facilities operate at their best every day. Compensation: $45,211 - $47,472 (To Be Determined Based on Experience and Qualifications) Benefits: Medical and dental insurance Elective supplemental insurance such as short‑term disability, vision, and voluntary term life Local government retirement plan 401(k) with 4% employer contribution (no employee match required) Generous paid leave including 13 county‑observed paid holidays per year Employee wellness program inclusive of a county‑sponsored gym Employee assistance program Job Responsibilities: Perform a variety of building, facilities, and equipment maintenance and repair activities including electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and HVAC. Work under general supervision of the Facilities Management Director or immediate supervisor; perform quality inspections and record keeping. Check heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment daily; monitor filters and temperatures; perform basic HVAC maintenance. Maintain surplus property records; coordinate pickup, storage, and distribution of outgoing equipment. Repair and maintain interior and exterior lighting; install and replace electrical fixtures, switches, outlets, and wiring. Repair, remodel, or replace building structures and offices; perform skilled carpentry tasks, including walls, cabinets, doors, windows, decks, and office furniture. Perform plumbing work: repair fixtures, unstop drains, install valves, toilets, urinals, and repair leaks. Install Ethernet and computer cables and related equipment. Paint surfaces, prepare interiors and exteriors, apply putty, caulking, and sheet rock; use power washer and solvents. Perform renovation work: remove and replace walls, build frames, install sheet rock, and apply mud. Change and repair electrical motors, controllers, and other equipment. Assist in routine maintenance duties as needed; replace light bulbs, ballasts, and fixtures; help move furniture and load voting equipment. Perform grounds‑keeping duties: trim shrubs, rake leaves, pick up trash, spread mulch, remove snow and ice, run weed eater and mower. Assist with custodial duties as needed to maintain cleanliness. Note and report all issues found during inspections; make quality repairs or schedule follow‑ups. Assist other departments during natural disasters or emergencies after hours or during inclement weather. Work call‑back or after‑hour emergencies; participate in on‑call schedule as needed. May be requested to obtain training in specialized trades such as electrical or HVAC. Perform related duties as required. Qualifications: Journey‑level knowledge of the principles and techniques of the various skilled trades required for the position. Thorough knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in the assigned trades. Thorough knowledge of safety regulations and occupational hazards. Skill in the use and care of assigned tools and equipment. Ability to diagnose problems and plan corrective action. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to exercise independent initiative. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and other County employees. Ability to supervise other maintenance workers at a first‑level level. Ability to use phone, tablet, and computers to respond to emails and work orders. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. High school diploma with coursework in varied technical or trade skills, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid North Carolina driver’s license upon hire. Completion of Defensive Driving training, HIPAA training, First Aid and CPR training, MSDS training, Chemical Use training, Ladder and Scaffolding training, Hand Tools training, and Safety and Health training within six months of employment. May be asked to obtain a NC Pesticide Applicator license.
