Chair of Dermatology

Summary Tufts Medical Center and Tufts University School of Medicine are searching for the Chair of Dermatology. The appointment will be for an academic physician executive who is a distinguished clinician, educator and scholar, with proven leadership in an academic medical setting. The Opportunity The Chair will lead the Department of Dermatology, reporting to the Dean of the Medical School/Chief Academic Officer, the President of the Physician Organization, and the Chief Operating Officer of Tufts Medicine Health System. Responsibilities include oversight of academic programs, faculty appointments and promotions, and the department’s strategic direction across affiliated teaching hospitals. Key Responsibilities Preserve and enhance the department’s reputation for excellence in dermatology resident and medical student education. Champion high‑quality clinical care and foster innovation in the business of dermatology, building relationships with internal and external referral sources. Expand access to dermatology services regionally, collaborating with affiliated hospitals. Recruit and develop faculty to support clinical, teaching, and research missions. Represent TMC dermatology to affiliates and new partners, fostering collaborations and securing resources. Provide leadership during the first year focused on recruitment, gap assessment, educational and clinical trial achievements, and patient access improvements. Ideal Candidate / Qualifications Rank of Professor or Associate Professor; UME/GME faculty portfolio including research, teaching and clinical trial experience. Substantial publication record; recognized scholarly accomplishments; leadership roles such as Program Director or Division Director. Experience building a practice infrastructure to improve physician effectiveness and patient experience. Business‑savvy with prior involvement in practice management and financial operations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to influence across interdependencies. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and fostering a rewarding environment for faculty. Medical Board certification in Dermatology (preferably sub‑specialty in Medical Dermatology); possession of an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. Compensation $636,130.00–$748,453.00 annually, with exact amount determined during selection based on experience, education, equity and academic rank.
