Senior Mechanical Engineer - Thermal Engineer

The Mechanical Analysis and Test (MA&T) Department at Raytheon is responsible for ensuring structural and thermal design robustness across the Raytheon portfolio of products. This position focuses on detailed thermal analysis from initial design trade studies and proposals through qualification testing to enduring production support. Raytheon is seeking a mid‑level career Senior Thermal Engineer to join the MA&T Department. The role is an onsite position at our Tucson, AZ facility and requires U.S. citizenship to obtain a required security clearance. Responsibilities Perform hand calculations to determine the scope of higher‑detail analysis models. Conduct detailed thermal analyses to solve various program thermal challenges. Generate test plans required to validate analyses and verify hardware compliance to customer requirements. Analyze test data to validate and correlate models. Work with experienced analysts on problems of moderate complexity under program cost and schedule constraints. Review work with peers to ensure technical accuracy. Present results to internal, external, and government customers. Travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities. Generate detailed documentation of work and archive for reference. Act as a technical leader, helping define or refine MA&T department technical processes and tools, and/or lead analysis/test teams. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience in thermal analysis, unless prohibited by local laws or regulations. Experience with thermal analysis tools such as ANSYS, PATRAN, Thermal Desktop/SINDA, or equivalent. Mechanical principles to solve classical thermal analysis solutions both inside and outside finite‑element tools. Demonstrated experience in thermal testing: planning, execution, data reduction, and correlation. Ability to obtain a U.S. government–issued security clearance; U.S. citizenship required. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in a related field. Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. 8+ years of professional experience in the thermal analysis of complex systems requiring collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines. Experience with solid modeling CAD tools such as CREO or equivalent. Experience in electronics cooling and aerodynamic heating analyses. Leadership experience with a team of thermal analysts and thermal testing, including model correlation. Experience presenting to external customers. Advanced degree in mechanics, aerodynamics, or related disciplines (ABET accreditation preferred but not required).
