Planner II

Professional position that performs moderate level planning work on planning projects in support of the City’s long-range plans and administration of the City’s zoning and subdivision regulations. This includes carrying out research for planning projects, conducting independent studies, preparing and presenting staff reports, performing final-review site inspections and other development review tasks as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of comprehensive planning and regulating land development. Knowledge of data collection methods and statistical analysis techniques. Ability to understand laws, rules and regulations. Ability to present ideas and findings clearly and concisely in writing, orally or graphic form. Skilled in the use of a computers and software utilized by the assigned work unit, including Google Earth, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Maintstar. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, outside agencies and the general public. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to move around a work site to perform site inspections in the field. Ability to read and interpret aerials, zoning or future land use maps. Knowledge of GIS systems is preferred. Education and Experience Minimum qualifications include compliance with one of the following four options: Master’s of Urban or Community Planning and one (1) year of professional‑planning experience. Bachelor’s of Urban or Community Planning and two (2) years of professional‑planning experience. Planning-related* Master’s degree and three (3) years of professional‑planning experience. Planning-related* Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of professional‑planning experience. * “Planning-related” degrees include, but are not limited to: environmental sciences, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, law, urban studies, and geography. An equivalent combination of related education, training and expertise that would reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities noted above, to be approved at the City Manager’s discretion. Certificates and Licenses Valid Florida driver’s license and be insurable by the City’s auto insurance carrier.
