EEO/AA JOB SUMMARY: The Middle School After-School Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily operations, implementation, and quality assurance of a DYCD-funded after-school program serving students in grades 6–8. The coordinator works closely with the Associate Division Director to ensure compliance with all New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) requirements while providing a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for participants. The coordinator supervises program staff, supports youth development initiatives, fosters positive relationships with school personnel and families, and ensures the successful delivery of academic, recreational, leadership, and enrichment activities. Job Duties include but not limited to: Program Operations: Assist in the daily management and oversight of after-school program operations. Ensure program activities are implemented according to DYCD standards, contractual requirements, and organizational policies. Coordinate participant enrollment, attendance tracking, and roster management. Monitor program schedules to ensure activities begin and end on time. Support the planning and execution of special events, trips, showcases, and family engagement activities. Assist with site coverage and supervision during program hours. Staff Supervision and Development: Provide direct supervision, coaching, and support to group leaders, activity specialists, and support staff. Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback. Facilitate staff meetings and professional development sessions as assigned. Ensure staff maintain high standards of youth engagement, behavior management, and program quality. Support staff with lesson planning and curriculum implementation. Youth Development: Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe environment that promotes social-emotional learning, leadership development, and youth voice. Support implementation of evidence-based curricula and enrichment activities. Address participant behavioral concerns using restorative and positive youth development practices. Build meaningful relationships with youth and families. Compliance and Data Management: Ensure accurate collection and maintenance of attendance, participant records, incident reports, and required DYCD documentation. Monitor compliance with DYCD, Department of Health (DOH), Department of Education (DOE), and organizational regulations. Assist with audits, site visits, and program monitoring reviews. Prepare reports and maintain organized program files. School and Community Partnerships: Develop and maintain positive working relationships with school administrators, teachers, custodial staff, and community partners. Serve as a liaison between the program, school community, and families. Participate in school and community meetings as assigned. Family Engagement: Support recruitment and retention efforts. Coordinate parent meetings, workshops, and engagement opportunities. Communicate regularly with families regarding participant progress, events, and program updates. Safety and Risk Management: Ensure all participants and staff adhere to safety procedures and emergency protocols. Complete incident reports and follow organizational reporting procedures. Maintain supervision ratios and ensure participant accountability at all times. QualificationsQualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Youth Development, Human Services, Recreation, or a related field preferred. Associate's Degree with relevant experience may be considered. Minimum of 2 years of experience working with middle school-aged youth. Minimum of 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience in an after-school, youth development, educational, or recreation setting. Experience with DYCD-funded programs strongly preferred. Strong understanding of positive youth development principles. Knowledge of DYCD, DOE, and DOH regulations and requirements. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and data management systems. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations. NYC Department of Education (DOE) fingerprint clearance. New York State Central Registry (SCR) clearance, if applicable. Department of Health (DOH) compliance requirements. CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday during program hours. Occasional evenings, weekends, special events, and trips as required. Physical Requirements: Ability to supervise indoor and outdoor activities. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, and actively engage with youth for extended periods.
