Associate Trial Attorney - Employment Litigation

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a trial-focused Associate Attorney with 3-10 years of employment litigation experience to join an Indianapolis-based legal team.

The ideal candidate will have meaningful hands-on experience litigating federal employment matters and, most importantly, have actual federal trial experience . The firm is seeking an attorney who can step into active litigation matters and confidently handle cases through trial.

Experience with Title VII, ADA, and other federal employment claims is highly preferred. Candidates should have experience appearing in Federal District Court and should be comfortable taking an active role in trials and courtroom proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

·         Manage employment litigation matters from case evaluation through resolution.

·         Handle cases involving Title VII, ADA, discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, and other federal employment claims .

·         Conduct legal research and analyze complex federal employment issues.

·         Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and other legal documents.

·         Develop and execute litigation strategies.

·         Conduct discovery and prepare cases for hearings and trial.

·         Take and defend depositions.

·         Appear before Federal District Courts and participate in hearings and other proceedings.

·         Participate in mediations and settlement negotiations.

·         Prepare for and actively participate in federal trials , including jury trials.

·         Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and other parties.

·         Manage multiple active matters, deadlines, and case responsibilities efficiently.

·         Work collaboratively with senior attorneys and legal support staff.

Required Qualifications

·         Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

·         Active license to practice law in Indiana and in good standing.

·         3-10 years of litigation experience , with meaningful federal litigation experience.

·         Demonstrated experience handling federal employment litigation .

·         Experience with Title VII and/or ADA litigation strongly preferred.

·         Experience appearing in Federal District Court .

·         Actual trial experience is required , with meaningful hands-on participation in federal trials; federal jury trial experience is strongly preferred .

·         Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.

·         Ability to independently manage litigation matters, deadlines, and competing priorities.

·         Strong organizational and case-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

·         Experience trying federal employment cases .

·         Experience handling Title VII, ADA, discrimination, retaliation, or related federal employment claims.

·         Experience serving as lead or first-chair trial counsel, or substantial responsibility during trial.

·         Experience taking and defending depositions.

·         Strong courtroom advocacy and trial skills.

·         Ability to step into active litigation matters with limited supervision.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced employment litigator and trial attorney who can handle federal employment matters and is comfortable in the courtroom.

The firm is particularly interested in an attorney who has personally handled and tried federal employment cases , rather than someone whose experience has been limited primarily to supporting other trial attorneys.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, in-person position in Indianapolis, IN . Remote or hybrid arrangements are not available , as the attorney will be expected to appear in court and handle trials in the Indianapolis area.
