Senior Accountant

A Senior Accountant is a financial professional responsible for maintaining the accuracy of an organization's financial records, managing month-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. They often oversee junior staff and assist leadership with forecasting and strategic financial decision-making. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets and profit-and-loss (P&L) statements. General Ledger & Close: Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes by preparing and reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations. Compliance & Audits: Ensure accounting practices strictly adhere to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); support internal and external audits. Analysis & Budgeting: Assist in budgeting, variance analysis, and forecasting to drive strategic decision-making. Team Leadership: Guide and mentor staff accountants and junior accounting personnel on daily tasks and best practices. Common Qualifications Experience: Typically requires 3 or more years of hands-on experience in corporate accounting, financial analysis, or public accounting. Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field. Certifications: A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential or a Master’s degree is highly preferred. Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) and experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software like QuickBooks, Intacct, or Oracle.
