Work Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (Flex Days) Posting Date: 2/9/2026 Salary: $40.08/hr to $91.37/hr (range; final rate determined by collective bargaining agreement, internal equity, candidate experience, and budget constraints.) Eligibility: Illinois residency within 180 days of hire (RNs only) Position Summary The Clinical Nursing Consultant II will develop and implement nursing educational programs for clinical service personnel. The role is accountable for facilitating patient care using the Nursing Process and Relationship‑Based Care model, coordinating educational development of staff, and providing patient care and clinical consultation. The consultant strives to improve patient outcomes through Shared Leadership, Evidence‑Based Practice, and standards of nursing excellence. Benefits Health, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance Retirement Plan Paid Time Off Tuition Waivers for employees and dependents Duties & Responsibilities Participate in planning and coordination of nursing activities across clinical services; design and conduct studies to define scope of nursing responsibilities. Assist nursing staff in developing effective care plans by reviewing existing patient programs, identifying deficiencies, and developing remedial educational programs. Analyze factors required for effective performance in specialized clinical services and establish performance standards for nursing personnel. Identify needs and develop improved methods; demonstrate nursing care methods peculiar to specialized services. Guide professional nursing staff in ensuring continuity of care for patients cared for by students; develop programs to complement student assignments. Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to changing patient needs. Collaborate with and support departmental and organizational education initiatives through Clinical Practice and Professional Development. Partner with interprofessional teams to improve and promote quality and safety in perioperative services. Lead process‑improvement initiatives through the project lifecycle, supporting change management and staff education. Initiate, conduct, and analyze evidence‑based practice research to improve patient outcomes and support other research efforts. Develop and conduct comprehensive clinical audits; interpret findings to guide education, quality improvement, and evidence‑based practice initiatives. Review, interpret, and write organizational and departmental policies to support compliance and operational effectiveness. Conduct unit‑specific orientation based on evidence‑based best practices and departmental processes. Support staffing as needed to maintain operations. Work flexible hours for special projects and departmental needs. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Eligibility for registration with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation. Two years of nursing experience in the relevant branch of service; one year comparable to a Clinical Nursing Consultant I. Experience selecting appropriate teaching methods based on educational and experience backgrounds of employees. BSN (or higher) from an accredited nursing program. Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit‑specific certifications. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or within 6 months of hire for a main hospital. Nationally certified through ANCC‑approved certifier, or within 6 months of hire in an area relevant to clinical practice. Current AHA BLS/CPR/PALS/ACLS. Certified Post‑Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) and Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse Certifications (CAPA). Completion within one year if not already certified. Two years of critical care experience. Demonstrated leadership experience (charge nurse, educator, committee leader). Proficiency in EPIC navigation and documentation. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word. Proficiency in data collection and interpretation. Proficiency in public speaking and presenting to large audiences. Preferred Qualifications Four years of critical care experience. Perianesthesia experience. Prior experience with risk, accreditation, quality, process improvement, IT, or professional development.
