Physician - Hospitalist (Fairfield)

Job Title

Provider is an Internal Medicine trained physician with significant Inpatient Medical experience.

The provider will provide both clinical and administrative Emergency Medicine services at David Grant Medical Center (DOD/DHA facility). The provider is expected to document into Cerner in a timely manner. Administrative duties are general oversight of Inpatient Medical operations including but not limited to fielding and managing calls from outside transfers (JRIC), admitting, rounding, and discharging patients, completing necessary timesheets and DHA/VA required online and in-person training and other usual administrative activity. The provider is expected to maintain Joint Commission readiness.

Direct supervisors are 1) Inpatient Medical Director and 2) Internal Medicine Element Chief at David Grant Medical Center.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide independent care delivery for chronic, acute/same day medical needs for low and high acuity diagnoses and illnesses. The type of care is served to the active duty, retiree, and Veteran population, with diseases consistent with those seen in the general population namely diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, mental health disorders, etc.
• Write orders for diagnostic testing, prescribe medications, consult with specialty service, and utilize computerized/electronic medical records.
• Major function of the position includes ER evaluation/disposition of all adult patients on which the member is consulted as well as coverage of all inpatient medical patients at the med/surg and IMCU/step down level. Independent ICU coverage is not excepted.
• Provide direct patient care to include, but are not limited to: history and physicals, medication management, evaluation of diagnostic tests and treatment planning, clinical reminder completion as applicable. Admit, transfer, and discharge patients as clinically indicated. Work with consultants as indicated for patient care.
• Field transfer calls from outside facilities with VA/DOD/Tricare eligible members. To include admitting and evaluating these transfers to ensure appropriateness for transfer and admission upon arrival.
• Document all medical information in an electronic medical record.
• Perform medication reconciliation.
• Submit timecards in a timely manner (DMHRSI for DHA) and VHA timekeeping.
