Role Overview

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a critical member of Amazon's executive leadership team (the S-Team), responsible for the global financial health and strategy of the company. The CFO will partner directly with the CEO and the Board of Directors to drive financial performance, optimize capital allocation, and ensure rigorous financial controllership across Amazon's diverse portfolio, including Global E-commerce, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Global Logistics, and Digital Entertainment. This leader will act as the primary financial steward of the company, balancing Amazon's culture of aggressive, long-term investment with the need for near-term operational efficiency and profitability.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Strategy & Capital Allocation

• Lead the company's global financial strategy, overseeing Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Treasury, Tax, and Internal Audit.
• Direct capital allocation strategies across highly distinct business units, balancing the capital-intensive infrastructure needs of AWS and logistics with investments in emerging technologies (e.g., AI, robotics, healthcare).
• Drive strategic business modeling and long-range forecasting to support Amazon's continuous expansion into new global markets and industry verticals.

Controllership & Risk Management

• Ensure pristine financial reporting, GAAP compliance, and robust internal controls across a massive, complex, and high-volume transaction environment.
• Oversee global tax planning and compliance, navigating complex international tax regulations and geopolitical shifts.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate financial and operational risks, ensuring the company's balance sheet remains a fortress.

Investor Relations & Stakeholder Management

• Act as the primary financial spokesperson for Amazon, leading quarterly earnings calls and communicating the company's financial narrative to Wall Street, institutional investors, and financial analysts.
• Partner with the Board of Directors, providing transparent, data-driven insights into the company's financial performance, risks, and strategic opportunities.

Operational Excellence & Frugality

• Champion Amazon's Leadership Principle of "Frugality," driving cost-efficiency initiatives across the global supply chain, fulfillment network, and corporate operations without sacrificing customer experience.
• Dive deep into unit economics, partnering with business leaders to optimize margins in low-margin retail environments and scale profitability in high-growth tech sectors.

M&A and Strategic Investments

• Evaluate and execute complex Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), strategic partnerships, and minority investments, ensuring rigorous financial due diligence and post-merger integration.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience: 15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, with at least 5 years serving as a CFO or senior finance executive at a massive, complex, publicly traded multinational corporation.
• Scale: Demonstrated track record of managing global financial operations for a company with revenues exceeding $50B and a highly complex, multi-currency operating environment.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Degrees/Certifications: MBA from a top-tier institution and/or active CPA (or equivalent) designation.
• Industry Expertise: Deep financial acumen in both low-margin/high-volume retail logistics and high-margin/capital-intensive enterprise technology (SaaS/Cloud/AI).
• Analytical Rigor: Exceptional ability to "Dive Deep" into complex data sets, utilizing advanced analytics to drive strategic financial decisions.
• Communication: Elite executive presence and communication skills, with a proven history of successfully managing relationships with top-tier institutional investors and global regulatory bodies.
• Leadership: A highly resilient, decisive leader capable of managing a massive global finance organization while fostering a culture of ownership, invention, and diversity.
