Summary The Nurse Manager provides leadership, clinical practice and staff development for one nursing unit, and is responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating nursing practice at the unit level. The Nurse Manager is accountable to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical and support staff, and appropriate resource and service management related to patient care. The Nurse Manager must also ensure services and care are provided abiding by the policies and procedures of the organization, demonstrate fiscal responsibility and accountability. The Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for implementing executive strategies into frontline reality by effectively and efficiently managing and leading in area(s) of responsibility for the strategic, financial and human resource plans, performance improvement initiatives, appropriate clinical practice knowledge and technology. Responsibilities Strategic Vision: The Nurse Manager works to define and implement nursing's strategic plan, and ensures area of responsibility is fully integrated into the overall strategic goals and objectives. Understands and shares the strategic plan of the organization including roles, timelines, milestones and resource utilization. People Leadership: Improves employee engagement through collaboration; routinely reviews reports from Human Resources such as employee satisfaction results, turnover and exit interviews; recognizes team members for great performance; contributes to the retention of staff by providing supportive and mentoring relationships; collaboratively develops, communicates and monitors performance expectations; promotes a results‑oriented environment ensuring effective communication regarding department successes and opportunities for improvement; supports a Just Culture Model that recognizes and fosters a system for reporting unsafe practices. Service Excellence: Responsible for the ongoing improvement of quality and performance metrics including core measures, hospital acquired infections, safety initiatives and the patient experience; facilitates daily rounding on patients; uses the iRounding tool for patient satisfaction; monitors and evaluates service indicators; actively participates in patient experience committees; facilitates education of employees related to service excellence; role models behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Organizational Impact: Assumes responsibility for the continuous growth, development of employees and daily operations of unit, including strategic succession plan; serves as an organizational change agent, engaging staff members in process improvement initiatives; formulates unit objectives, goals and specific strategies consistent with organization goals; develops and maintains positive relationships with all providers; advocates and involves multidisciplinary team when major changes are planned; takes lead in working with Labor Management Partnership team to develop staffing efficiencies, service excellence, employee satisfaction and continuous improvement in quality outcomes; promotes Mission, Vision, philosophy, code of ethics and CARE values. Continuous Improvement: Ensures performance improvement program is interdisciplinary and aligned with organization; cultivates culture of innovation, continual learning and accountability; partners with other disciplines to drive positive change; attends leadership classes offered by the leadership development team; collaborates to improve quality metrics using established process improvement technologies; facilitates change and fosters staff engagement involvement; promotes staff participation in shared governance Council and unit‑level decision making; performs operational excellence tasks such as cost‑benefit analysis, financial modeling; monitors and manages unit finances and productivity; justifies monthly variances; maintains compliance with regulatory requirements and JHS policies; maintains knowledge of trends; designs flexible staffing models ensuring adequate staffing while meeting unit targets; ensures professional environment safe for nurses; follows all related unit policies; performs related duties as assigned. Experience: Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience; management experience is strongly preferred. Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. General Competencies: Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting deadlines; ability to communicate effectively; ability to handle difficult situations with professional composure; ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to exercise sound judgment; knowledge and skill in use of appropriate technology and software. Management Competencies: Knowledge of business and management principles; skill in monitoring and assessing performance; skill in logic and reasoning; ability to plan, implement and evaluate programs; ability to establish goals and objectives; ability to recognize, analyze and solve a variety of problems. Nursing Competencies: Ability to understand and respect patients' preferences and needs; ability to communicate clearly and accurately with doctors, nurses, patients and families; ability to show compassion, patience and maintain non‑judgmental approach. Unit Specific: Must have clinical knowledge to fully and accurately complete unit competencies; knowledge of business and management principles; skill in monitoring and assessing performance; skill in logic and reasoning; ability to plan, implement and evaluate programs; ability to establish goals and objectives; ability to recognize, analyze and solve variety of problems. Credentials: Valid Florida RN license required; American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS; must meet and maintain valid and current unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/lumbers as required by regulatory and nursing standard of practice. Unit Specific Credential: FL‑BLS.
