Associate/Full Professor - Chief, Division of General Internal

Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a physician-investigator of unique vision, enthusiasm, and experience for the Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) in the Department of Internal Medicine. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. Reporting directly to the Chair of Internal Medicine, this individual will lead and ensure the excellence of the educational, scientific, and clinical programs within the Division of GIM with overall responsibility for operations and strategy across the Division. The Chief will also oversee the growth and development of outstanding clinical programs and will support research while enhancing the Division’s excellent reputation of extramural funding. Division Faculty & Services Ninety-two faculty members, including general internists and palliative care physicians Seven advanced practice providers Three fellowship programs with eight fellows General Internal Medicine and Palliative Care services provided primarily at Parkland Memorial Hospital, Clements University Hospital, Dallas VA Medical Center, and their affiliated clinics throughout the region A full spectrum of preventive health services and management of chronic diseases and conditions, including the care of complex patients and population health management Research Activities Current and future research opportunities involve clinical epidemiology, health services, population health, comparative effectiveness, disparities, quality of care, patient safety, predictive analytics, clinical informatics, health system intervention/implementation science, pragmatic trials, and medical education research Research projects span inpatient, outpatient, post-acute care, and community settings, covering translational research, preventive medicine, chronic disease management, cancer screening, prevention and survivorship through end-of-life care, among other topics Faculty Benefits Excellent healthcare plans, competitive salary, and retirement benefits Dedicated academic time Administrative, biostatistical, and logistical support On-campus transportation system ensures mobility between the various clinical locations Nearby daycare with UTSW-affiliated rates Flexible work‑plans as appropriate Qualifications Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or foreign equivalent Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine and eligible for an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Texas A minimum of 10 years of strong faculty academic experience with a proven record of extramural funding and mentorship leading to trainees obtaining independent funding Experience with recruitment and development of physicians and a reputation for mentorship Proven record of leading an extensive, successful clinical program in an academic environment Capable of defining both the clinical and academic visions of the Division and providing experience in mentorship across all missions Respected experience in research, clinical practice, and education A commitment to instructing medical students, residents, and fellows through formal lectures, and in the patient care setting and research activities An ability to build and sustain collegial relationships with faculty, departmental staff, hospital administration, students, and other learners in a highly complex environment An ability to effectively manage the business aspects of a growing clinical service and ensure the financial health of the Division amid constantly evolving reimbursement and payment models A commitment to advance the current diverse gender, ethnic, and socioeconomic faculty environment of the Division, and to identify and recruit diverse staff at all levels An understanding of academic health care in the United States Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishment and experience.
