Overview Underwriting Assistant – Chicago, IL Multiple Openings. Anticipated start date: September 28, 2026. On site interview days: week of August 17, 2026. Application deadline: August 7, 2026. What You’ll Be Doing Pre-underwrites, evaluates risk, and assesses completeness of the underwriting package before underwriter review. Communicate directly with Brokers on behalf of the Underwriters to collect account and insured information necessary for risk analysis. Perform and apply knowledge of line of business specific product underwriting rules and/or guidelines for pre-analysis support of submission in preparation of further analysis for quoting stage. Collaborate effectively with Underwriters, Brokers, Reinsurers, and internal units within AXA XL to manage the status and workflow of multiple tasks and accounts. Communicate account status to ensure completion of outstanding subjectivities needed to execute policy issuance and premium collection as part of bound accounts. Develop initial pricing, basic coverage structuring, quotation, and binder packages of the risk on behalf of the underwriter. Calculate base rating and apply experience modifications as part of underwriting package completed by the Underwriting Support Unit for Underwriter review. Manage the workflow of multiple tasks and maintain a detailed understanding of the status of various tasks owned by Underwriters, Brokers, Reinsurers, AXA XL internal network, and Fronting Partners around the world. Collaborate and correspond verbally and in written format with internal and external contacts across the world, considering differences in local language and time zones to achieve a high level of service and meet client expectations. Utilize the Salesforce platform, ensuring accurate and timely input of information critical to the needs of the underwriting team for work tracking, productivity, and service delivery. Participate in projects where the Unit provides Subject Matter Experts related to the Underwriting Support Unit. Assess when it is necessary and perform quality control of coding and issuance output to ensure accuracy of work (e.g., exposure bases, limits, coverage extensions, data entry). Collaborate with Underwriters, Product Management, Legal, and Regulatory as necessary to perform pre-bind activities and confirm policy issuance instructions and manuscript wordings, regulatory notices, certificates, etc. What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree, or related insurance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Robust interpersonal skills to work effectively and professionally with diverse groups. Proven prioritization and time management skills with accurate results. Organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel), Internet Explorer and Adobe Acrobat (or similar PDF conversion tool).
